THE ROLE

The VP of Business Intelligence and Performance (BIP) provides oversight, leadership and direction to the technical functions and system strategy as part of a centralized supply chain service called the Resources, Engineering, and Hospitality group (REH), which supports Providence's entire care delivery operations.

The Resource, Engineering and Hospitality Group “REH” (formerly Supply Chain Management) aspires to be the industry’s leading supply chain and strategic sourcing organization. We provide supply chain services across seven states: Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Washington - as well as multiple delivery channels - acute, sub-acute, ambulatory and home and community care. The REH group provides comprehensive supply chain related services including distribution logistics and inventory management, demand planning, strategic sourcing, equipment lifecycle management, procurement, and accounts payable.

The role of this BIP leader is critical to the strategic success of our division as we move our supply chain, equipment planning, procure to pay and other ancillary services teams to a new level of service delivery. It is responsible for developing a technical, system, and analytics strategy, partnering with IS teams to maintain our core business systems, working with REH and external business leaders to support analytics and reporting needs, and to enable our modernization plans with innovative technical solutions. The leader will be the main REH point of contact for M&A integration activities, and will be responsible for designing, testing, and implementing the Supply Chain module during project Genesis. In general, we expect this leader to work seamlessly across functions, and bring a strategic view to the technical solutions needed to support our business.

The role will manage a team of 50 caregivers, including 3 director / senior director level reports as well as technical individual contributors. The teams include Materials Management Information Services (MMIS), Master Data Management (MDM), Business Intelligence (BI), Decision Support (DS), and Technical Strategic Programs. These teams will collaborate to meet the objectives above and support the REH organization in the provision of supply chain services for Providence as a whole.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • The position is accountable for assessing, planning, developing, and implementing strategies and tactics to optimize the technical performance of all supply chain functions, making use of future business platforms and analytics tools.

  • The position will maintain and build required performance metrics and analytics dashboards to support the business; in doing so, the position will continue to advance the integrated data assets and strategy.

  • The position is responsible for managing core business systems, working with the relevant technical teams in IS and business leaders in REH, including but not limited to:

  • Lawson, PMM, Oracle ERP systems

  • Epic, Meditech EMR systems

  • Computrition, MyDining Menu and Food Planning systems

  • PSJH Intranet, sharepoint, and other workflow tools

  • ScWorx, Curvo, other Master data management (MDM) systems and tools

  • WebNow, Perceptive, OnDemand AP, other P2P workflow systems and tools

  • The position will maintain the REH BI reporting environment, and work to increase the scope of integrated data assets under management.

  • The position will support the maintenance of current and creation of new BI reports and dashboards to support core business functions.

  • The leader will collaborate with physicians, clinicians, operations, quality, project management and finance executives to create dashboards, tools, and systematic ways for providing actionable supply chain analytic support relevant to care delivery operations.

  • The position will develop technology solutions for enhanced integration of suppliers and other business partners engaged with Supply Chain, Engineering and Hospitality services.

  • The position will manage a diverse team of 50 caregivers with 3 director / senior director level reports.

  • The incumbent must have the ability to run a fiscally sound organization, capable of generating the required financial returns and expense management to meet the chosen objectives.

  • The position must develop and execute customer-focused business plans and operational strategies that respond to unique market factors such as size, demographics, competitors and targeted patient expectations.

  • This person must have the ability to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction in order to maintain a market leadership position.

  • The position will maintain relevant policies and procedures for compliance and operational risks and determines appropriate risk management strategies.

  • The individual will be expected to be an innovator who has the demonstrated ability to create a strategic plan and communicate it throughout the organization. These plans must effectively integrate, influence, leverage, and be consistent with the overall REH strategy plan as well as the Providence St. Joseph Health strategy, mission and core values.

Additional accountabilities include:

  • Understanding of, at a strategic and professional level, the requirements for and development of business intelligence solutions needed to optimize the business processes of each segment of the SCM, Engineering and Hospitality programs in serving their primary customer groups.

  • Development of external technology solutions for that will offset operating expense and provide new growth strategies for SCM, and support market-leading affiliation strategies for PH&S.

  • Informed risk-taking acting as a catalyst for innovation.

  • Networking and benchmarking with other supply chain organizations to identify and implement best practices.

  • Maintenance of an operating culture which is disciplined, accountable, consistent, cost-effective, and collaborative, and ensures that patient well-being and safety are paramount.

  • Effective use of resources by building strong, performance-based relationships with shared service and ministry leadership.

  • High levels of customer satisfaction by reinforcing a culture of excellence.

  • Active participation in business reviews with leadership to develop and validate the systems and tools required to achieve operational excellence.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Required experience/education for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Health Sciences, or other related field.

  • More than 10 years of experience in Information Services and/or Analytics Director-level experience.

  • More than 10 years of leadership experience.

  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices and the ability to apply them effectively.

  • Ability to effectively build relationships with customers, executive management, and other stakeholders through positive interaction and problem identification and resolution.

  • Strategic thinking and thought leadership.

  • ERP system experience, preferably Lawson and or Oracle Cloud.

  • EMR system experience, preferably Epic and or Meditech.

  • Management experience with BI tools and database approached and structures.

  • Strategic thinking and thought leadership.

  • Visionary leadership skills and ability to engage physicians, system executives, clinical and operations leaders

  • Experience leading business process re-engineering activities to reduce end to end non-value activities

  • Experience with lean or six sigma methodologies

  • Finance management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, benchmarking

  • Ability to think in terms of possibilities; creates a clear vision and strategy, think broadly and understands interdependencies

  • Excellent decision making/judgment skills

  • Ability to build relationships and credibility; facilitate working sessions with large and small internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills to manage relationships between all levels across business units as well as externally.

  • Polished verbal and written communication skills, management and problem-solving experience and strong organizational skills

  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately

  • Strong financial and analytics acumen

Preferred experience/education for this position include:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
