PACCAR Vehicle Test Engineer in Renton, Washington
Job Title: Vehicle Test Engineer
Job Description: Design and execute validation, testing, and verification processes and protocols to ensure safety and quality of engine products. Organize, coordinate and conduct vehicle engineering verification, validation, and test activities for PACCAR Global Engines. Contribute to root cause analysis, documentation, and support activities in failure analysis to achieve solutions. Plan, coordinate, and conduct mileage accumulation testing. Analyze test requests, discuss test requirements, and formulate preliminary test plans, budgets, and schedules. Present observations of product performance and/or reliability to other engineers and leadership. Develop and improve test methodologies. Initiate and participate in corrective action projects for truck components. Plan, coordinate, and verify that test, data acquisition, and specific instrumentation equipment is installed, meets specified requirements, performs preliminary data checks, and ensures off-site test facilities meet test requirements. Troubleshoot electrical, hardware, and software issues. Participate in data collection and analysis. Telecommuting permitted up to 20%. Position requires up to 10% domestic and international travel for vehicle development testing or offsite troubleshooting support.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field or the foreign degree equivalent and 3 years of automotive engineering experience, including at least 2 years of experience in each of the following:
- Troubleshooting electrical, hardware and software issues on trucks using development tools, schematics, and technical knowledge of chassis systems, order processing systems, production service tools, engineering drawings, CREO (CAD), production service tools, and J1939 Protocol.
- Applying principles of Mechanical Engineering to troubleshoot failures on truck engines, reduce truck downtime, and promote on-time vehicle delivery using dealer service tools, dealer service troubleshooting information guides, vehicle build and material information, and chassis build orders.
- Applying principles of automotive engineering and vehicle systems, including vehicle dynamics, electrical systems, and safety regulations.
- Analyzing, testing, and identifying patterns to support data-driven decisions for vehicle development and improvement using PowerBI, Tableau, and other data visualization and analytics tools.
- Identifying, analyzing, and documenting mechanical failures and hardware issues on vehicles, using fault reporting and issue tracking tools and databases and collaborating with teams of engineers, technicians, and operators.
- Creating and maintaining detailed process documentation to reduce training time and maintain quality, efficiency, and reliability of operations.
- Utilizing 6 Sigma methodology to drive process improvement initiatives.
Experience may be gained concurrently.
Location: Full-time position with PACCAR Inc located in Mount Vernon, WA. Telecommuting permitted up to 20%. Position requires up to 10% domestic and international travel for vehicle development testing or offsite troubleshooting support.
Salary: $92,477 - $112,300 annually
