The Boeing Company has an opportunity for Waste Treatment Plant Operators for our Puget Sound Site Facilities across all shifts.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Operate Industrial Waste Treatment Systems (e.g., Membrane filtration, Ion exchange, Cyanide wastes, Oil waste, Reverse osmosis, Clarifier), using continuous flow and batch processes to remove industrial wastes.

  • Operate and maintain supply tanks/vats of dry chemicals/liquids (e.g., ferrous sulfate, polymers/coagulants, lime) for addition to waste stream.

  • Perform pre-treatment of influent wastes from customers with appropriate chemicals (e.g., sodium metabisulphate, magnesium hydroxide, sulfuric acid, lime) to control PH levels, breakdown of Phenols or Cyanides and removal of heavy metals or solvents.

  • Operate/monitor equalization/storage tanks, to transfer concentrated wastes into treatment systems at a pre-determined feed rate, maintaining acceptable PH/metal levels.

  • Operate/monitor an on-line computer system to control equipment settings (e.g., pump pressures, temperatures, PH levels) for the pumping/flowing of waste liquids into and out of the treatment systems.

  • Perform periodic sampling of treated effluent liquid for the Boeing environmental lab or municipal agencies (e.g., physical grab sample, Automatic Composite Sampler) to check for correct residual heavy metal, PH and/or Phenol levels, per federal, state, county and Boeing requirements.

  • Operate industrial wastewater testing equipment (e.g., PH tester, conductivity meter, colormetric analyzer) checking influents/effluents for correct levels.

  • Operate/maintain storm water pretreatment system, waste sludge filter press and sludge dryer, removing excess sludge/metals from waste treatment system (e.g., clarifier system, Reverse Osmosis, ultra filtration).

  • Perform daily/monthly check of waste system sensors (e.g., PH, conductivity, temperatures) maintaining low/high set points by adjusting/calibrating the equipment.

  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair waste treatment systems (e.g., leaks, rebuild pumps, replace plumbing) using appropriate tools (e.g., wrenches, saws all, drill press) or call in a repair ticket.

  • Perform in-tank (confined space entry) maintenance (e.g., tank cleaning, inspection of plumbing/suction lines, liner integrity).

  • Perform (PM) periodic maintenance on customer's equipment (e.g., fume scrubbers, oil/water separators), cleaning, checking for leaks and/or maintaining chemical levels.

  • Perform periodic (EPA) Environmental Protection Agency compliance sampling of offsite customers (e.g., photo lab, water jet, waste oil tanks/pits).

  • Determine if waste (e.g., fats, oils, greases, metals, PH) can be treated or shipped for disposal.

  • Perform filter cartridge changes on deionizing units and removal, cleaning, installation and/or replacement of membrane filters on ultra filtration units.

  • Move drums or bags of chemicals for use in waste treatment plant, using the appropriate equipment (e.g., overhead crane, scissors/snorkel lift, electric stacker).

  • Operate vacuum tanker truck (e.g., 2500 to 5000 gallon), pumping industrial waste into tanker (e.g., paint hanger/tankline rinse water, oil waste, construction dewater) and offload into treatment facility storage tanks for subsequent treatment.

  • Respond to hazardous material spills, assisting in removal of hazardous waste (e.g., vacuum tanker truck, absorbent materials, containment booms).

  • Coordinate and work with other organizations (e.g., environmental engineers/administrators, shop personnel) to properly identify and dispose of hazardous industrial wastes and resolve regulatory issues.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of experience working with powered hand tools and equipment

  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License

  • Must be willing and able to work in confined spaces

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience as an Industrial Waste Treatment Operator

  • 3+ years of experience in managing and maintaining environmental programs, such as, air quality management, hazardous waste, storm water or oil spill prevention

  • 3+ years of experience working with hazardous materials

  • Detailed design experience with hydro-mechanical actuators and valves

  • 3+ years of experience with variable drive motor and pump controls

  • 3+ years of experience using measurement and test equipment

  • Experience working from heights and using fall protection equipment with weight limitations

  • 3+ years of experience driving heavy commercial trucks

This position is for multiple shifts: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.
