Providence Health & Services Executive Director of Communications, Ambulatory Care Network in Renton, Washington


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling an Executive Director of Communications for our Ambulatory Care Network in Seattle, WA.

We are seeking an Executive Director of Communications for the PSJH Ambulatory Care Network to develop and execute strategic communication programs in support of the Providence St. Joseph Health brand, Mission and Values, as well as the senior executive team at both a system and region level.

The executive director and their team will work closely with executive leadership and teams, focusing on strategic message development and positioning of executive leaders, as well as major internal and external issues and initiatives. The executive director will also be responsible for overseeing the quality of all related communication tools and channels, ensuring full alignment of organizational communication strategies, programs, channels and messaging in support of executive and brand-level messaging.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Directs communication strategy, planning and execution for the following: Executive-lead programs, initiatives; mergers and affiliation communication strategy; external thought-leader positioning for executive leaders; brand communication for internal and external audiences.

  • Works closely with the SVP, Chief Communication & External Affairs Officer and AVP, Communication, to reinforce and grow the organizational voice of Providence St. Joseph Health through consistent, proactive communication sharing.

  • Shaping effective, consistent communication channels organization-wide that support the effective delivery of Providence's brand strategy and promise to both internal and external audiences.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communication, marketing, business or related field Or equivalent educ/experience.

  • 10 years Experience in a communication role

  • Strong discernment and ability to understand/navigate a matrixed organization in order to access appropriate expertise.

  • Working knowledge of fundamental brand principles and how to manage the experience and identify of a brand.

  • Proven project management capability - can see projects from ideation through development and into implementation.

  • Proven ability to 'manage up' and escalate matters that have impact broader than their assigned hospital.

  • Strong communication skills - written, oral and presentation.

  • Comfort with working in partnership, as well as autonomously with times of minimal local support.

  • Ability to learn project management software and systems to track development of marketing materials.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
