PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $30.19-$36.78 hourly. The full Pay Range is $23.42-$43.56 hourly. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance. We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan. Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. As a Leave & Absence Specialist at BECU, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting our employees during significant life events. Your expertise will ensure that employees receive the right guidance fostering a culture of care and support. By coordinating leave benefits accurately, you’ll empower our team members to focus on what matters most, knowing their needs are in capable hands.

This role is eligible for remote work in WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, SC, GA.*

WHAT YOU’LL DO :

  • Coordinate Leave Benefits: Collaborate with the payroll department and key stakeholders to ensure accurate time coding and payment, making sure all employees on leave receive their benefits seamlessly.

  • Support Employee Inquiries: Work with the team to answer questions from managers and employeesregardingfederal, state, and company leave plans, attendance-related, process and pay policies and guidelines, with clarity and empathy.

  • Assist in Accommodation Administration : Help manage accommodation requests, applying your understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and relevant state laws to support employees effectively.

  • Manage Documentation: Oversee documentation for state-specific leave programs, handling appeals and ensuring compliance and accuracy in record-keeping.

  • Develop Educational Resources: Contribute to the creation and delivery of educational materials and resources to inform employees and managers about absence management and leave programs.

  • Drive Process Improvement: Actively participate in projects aimed at enhancing employee experiences and operational efficiency, recommending best practices for leave management.

  • Perform Additional Duties: Embrace new challenges by taking on additional tasks as needed, contributing to the overall success of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work or educational experience.

  • Minimum three years progressive responsibility in a professional HR role with specific experience in leave administration.

  • Experience working with federal and state leave laws and regulations governing leave administration including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, state-paid leave plans such as WA Paid Family & Medical Leave.

  • Experience administrating a Leave Plan and Program.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite to include PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint.

  • Experience effectively communicating internally at all levels of the organization and externally with vendors, potential vendors, and regulatory agencies. 

  • Experience consulting and influencing business leaders.

  • Experience working independently, and as part of a team, establishing effective working relationships with colleagues both internally and externally.

  • Experience applying a high level of discretion and judgment, exercising confidentiality, and demonstrating respect and due diligence in sensitive situations.

  • Demonstrated organizational, time-management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
