Amazon Visual UX Designer, Project Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. As a Visual UX Designer, you will be a valuable member of Project Kuiper’s Commerce UX team. In this role you will define, design, and deliver user interface designs that delight our customers across the globe to create a meaningful, emotional connection between customers and our product.

A successful candidate will be curious, creative, highly analytical and be able to work autonomously to drive impact as part of a large growing cross-functional team (product and program managers, software and hardware engineers, business development and marketing team and industrial designers). We are looking for a designer who is a systems-thinker and highly-skilled at establishing and/or utilizing brand guidelines and design systems to deliver visually compelling, world-class customer experiences.

Key job responsibilities

  • You will be hands on, working alongside a talented team of UX designers, and have a strong understanding of brand, design systems and best practices, including layout, color palette, typography, iconography and illustrations.

  • You are at ease visualizing an experience in the abstract, building consensus, and then driving that vision into concise design deliverables.

  • As a visual storyteller, you will advocate for design excellence and help create meaningful, emotional connection between customers and our products.

  • In collaboration with the UX Lead, you will facilitate cross-functional design review meetings for input and sign-off on design artifacts.

  • You will create design briefs, proposals, reports and executive summaries as needed to keep the product team and Kuiper leadership team informed of design opportunities and design progress.

  • You will provide design clarification and consultation as needed to engineers when designs are being implemented.

  • You will provide design assets as needed to the Kuiper Marketing Team to be used on external-facing Kuiper website and other promotional materials.

  • Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity and a track record of hands on experience on design projects that have launched.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications/Advertising Design/Graphic Design/HCI.; or commensurate experience.

  • 3+ years of Visual and/or UX design design experience

  • 3+ years experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scale and complexity

  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, InVision, or Principle

  • Proficient designing and using brand guidelines, design systems and design frameworks

  • Have an available online portfolio demonstrating samples of design deliverables

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing consumer-facing or enterprise experiences for web and mobile applications.

  • 3+ years of experience working in direct collaboration with UX designers, product managers, developers, and/or stakeholders

  • Experience art directing motion designers, illustrators, writers and content creators

  • Experience participating in the complete product development lifecycle of successfully launched applications

  • Ability to prototype in environments like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS a plus but not required

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and make impact in a fast-paced environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $108,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
