SPARC is looking for a Technology Development Initiatives Manager to join its Technology Innovation Portfolio and Strategy team.

Responsibilities

  • Build a pipeline of Hardware & Systems technologies from start-ups and innovative companies that solves Azure’s greatest challenges, keeps Azure at the forefront of cutting-edge innovation, and generates impactful business value.

  • Work with internal partners to understand needs, define key technical performance indicators, and identify and vet technology opportunities.

  • Develop new and existing external strategic relationships with upper-level business and technical leaders to gain strategic insights and access to the most innovative emerging technologies.

  • Partner with architecture teams and lead efforts to develop and pitch initiatives that scope, develop and document a technical strategy, vision, and value proposition:

  • Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to vet technologies, develop and validate requirements.

  • Drive assessment of technology options-based trends, competition, and domain expertise.

  • Define how new technologies will transform the user experience and/or create an Azure technical or business advantage.

  • Partner with other Azure organizations to align cross-org stakeholders.

  • Work with technical teams on plans to evaluate and develop technology concepts:

  • Define success criteria for technology evaluation and adoption.

  • Manage development and delivery of specifications, proofs of concept, and other collateral necessary to progress concepts through stage gates and facilitate adoption into the Azure product roadmap:

  • Drive partner, vendor, and supplier engagements to deliver the needs of the programs.

  • Develop reporting to identify and support key arch decisions, and track opens, risks, technical evaluations, schedules, etc.

  • Manage dependencies to maintain cohesive and connected user scenarios.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 3+ years of experience in the server-datacenter technology industry OR in a technical role in hardware design or computer architecture AND experience working with external ecosystem partners, building collaborations, and relationships.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher with a technical concentration preferred or equivalent work experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in the server-datacenter technology industry OR in a technical role in hardware design or computer architecture in a hyperscale cloud technology field AND experience working with external ecosystem partners, building collaborations, and relationships.

  • Be conversant and have experience with software and hardware architectures. Including knowledge of the component technologies and underlying silicon technology (compute, networking, storage, memory, etc.) in the hardware industry.

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem resolution and decision-making skills.

  • Solid judgment, team building, budgeting, and the ability to work under continual deadline pressure.

  • Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to build compelling internal/external presentations and comprehensive business review materials, as well as the ability to translate abstract thoughts, key themes and tactics into understandable messages for broad consumption.

  • Adaptability, flexibility and the ability to deal with ambiguity while working in a fast-paced and changing environment with a highly organized, process-focused aptitude.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and negotiating skills; the ability to deal with multiple constituencies and manage multiple simultaneous objectives is imperative.

  • Some travel may be required – rough expectation is 25% of time or less.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
