Amazon Sr. Systems Development Engineer, Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior PLM Systems Development Engineer who combines a strong development and product lifecycle/configuration management background. This person will work closely with a team of top-notch satellite hardware engineers, as well as collaborating with our development and infrastructure teams. We are building enterprise tools to serve both immediate and long-term internal customer needs, and we’re doing it from within the teams we’re serving. A background in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Product Data Management (PDM), Computer Aided Design (CAD), mechanical design, or manufacturing engineering will serve you well in this environment.

As a Senior Systems Development Engineer you will be expected to influence the business and technology direction of the team. You will have the ability to impact the goals of not only your direct team but partner teams and stakeholders as well. You will work with internal Kuiper Engineering customers to develop requirements for the feature gaps associated with their current enterprise tools, then architect, propose, develop, deploy, and support the resulting solutions.

This is a hands-on position where your daily activities will range from strategic planning to new system development to supporting the customers that depend on your services. You will deliver consistent, well-defined results in a fast-paced systems development workflow. To succeed in this role, you will deliver on-time results that delight your customers while inspiring your team to think big about their work.

Key job responsibilities

Interface with all necessary individuals in supported departments in order to accurately identify shared and unique product data needs across the organization. Balance those requirements into a comprehensive product data management strategy.

Translation of complex functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture and design documentation.

Assist with guiding the development of engineering and enterprise-wide PLM and CM processes and workflows.

Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain high quality, highly available, innovative software solutions to transform engineering workflows.

Hands-on leadership for your team; working with others on the engineering team to guide the day-to-day development activities, leading architecture decisions, participating in designs, design reviews, and implementation.

Utilize knowledge of development and service delivery best practices to lead design and development efforts for a team with a timeliness, security, and scalability mindset.

Research implementations that deliver the best possible experiences for customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.

  • Experience leading the design, implementation, maintenance, and administration of CAD, PDM, or PLM systems, including driving standards and procedures.

  • Experience developing integrations between enterprise systems such as PLM and ERP.

  • 4+ years experience in systems engineering, product development, or technical product management.

  • 3+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang.

  • 3+ years of experience with web application development.

  • 3+ years of experience with developing against SQL databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.

  • 2+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems.

  • Highly proficient in mechanical engineering configuration management and control.

  • Strong experience in communicating with various types of technical teams to collect requirements, describe product features and technical designs, and translating those across different disciplines in easy to understand ways.

  • Strong desire to build, sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in a STEM field.

  • Strong foundation in data structures, OO, and core Computer Science concepts.

  • Experience in: Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, Model Based Engineering/Model Based Design.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
