Microsoft Corporation Sr. Manager, M&A and Venture Finance in Redmond, Washington

We are looking for a new team member to drive portfolio performance and health analysis for our venture investments, actively contribute to financial due diligence, and drive cost performance across business development, strategy, and ventures teams.

The Microsoft Acquisition and Venture Success (MAVS) Finance team focuses on driving objective and rigorous due diligence, risk identification and mitigation, and post-merger integration in M&A, and drives financial partnering and excellence across Microsoft Business Development, Strategy and Ventures (BDSV) organization. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Ventures Finance , to work closely with BDSV in financial partnering, and specifically with M12 (Microsoft’s corporate venture capital team) in driving portfolio performance and health.


  • Partner across the BDSV team and drive input into all major financial decisions. Bring value through insights, analysis, and actions. The ability to constructively challenge all aspects of the business in delivering improved performance while maintaining strong working relationships is fundamental to this role.

  • Drive accountability for M12 portfolio performance and analysis. You will partner with the M12 leadership to guide VC portfolio allocation and use of dry powder. You will perform fair market value assessments for active M12 investments and own the overall fund, vintage, and deal performance analysis against value drivers (strategic and financial) with benchmarking against the market, leveraging 3rd party research.

  • Assess deal valuation. You will implement and monitor the ongoing value of the portfolio and partner with Corporate Accounting to ensure we make the necessary accounting adjustments to accurately report the value of our portfolio from an external reporting perspective.

  • Due Diligence. Our team conducts financial due diligence in deals both on M&A and VC investments to validate value creation and assess risks.

  • Drive the M12 portfolio review ROB for the business. You will be responsible for creating the content and driving the agenda, process, and follow-ups for the quarterly business review meetings to evaluate portfolio health and to track and monitor our “watchlist” companies.

  • Investment tracking. You will own the processes and influence the tool needs to ensure we maintain a well-controlled and modernized approach to tracking our capital deployments, write downs and exits.

  • Opex Governance. You will manage and control the operating expenses for the BDSV organization and will partner with the team to influence resource allocation decisions. You will also drive the reporting and P&L accountability with the BDSV team and ensure we drive a compliance culture through the organization.


Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Management, Human Resources, or Business AND 5+ years experience in project management, business operations, finance and analysis, strategic or relationship management role.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct or related mergers & acquisitions experience.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP).

  • Work history in both FP&A and VC, PE, or investment banking

  • CPA, CFA, or equivalent designation with practical experience preferred

  • Experience working in the high-tech industry preferred.

  • Growing financial/business acumen, ability to translate complex data into meaningful insights and actions.

  • Proven communication skills to provide clarity to support advising deal teams and the transaction partner.

  • Leadership and management skills and can perform in an environment of ambiguity and drive decisions within short timeframes with limited information.

  • Up to 10% of the time may be required for domestic and international travel, sometimes with short notice.
