Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

The Microsoft Translator team is looking for a Software Engineer II. If you are curious about the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in tech, and translation specifically, this is the job for you. The Machine Translation team uses large scale deep learning models to deliver translations that help billions of users overcome language barriers. Our engineering team incorporates research breakthroughs into an Azure Cognitive service (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/cognitive-services/translator/#overview) that powers translation in Microsoft applications like Bing, Edge, Teams, and Office, as well as thousands of companies to translate everything from social media content to documents (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/translator/blog/2023/03/29/document-translation-in-language-studio/) . This team is a unique blend of 'research' and 'product'.

We're a small, agile team, light on pigeonholes, big on autonomy. We've recently completed migration to Kubernetes and are still figuring out the micro-services world. We strive to stay current with the latest engineering tools and practices like Git, VSTS, Cloud Build, frequent releases, scrum planning. Most of our codebase is in C#.

This position will be focused in the Custom Translator product line which is responsible for providing the tools for customers to submit their own translations and configure their own models for translating their specific content. You will be working on developing these tools and adding features. In addition, you will be responsible for maintaining Microsoft security compliance and practices of Azure development and release processes

Responsibilities

  • Working within an engineering team, designing, developing, testing, and releasing new features across the full stack of Azure resources (web application/ REST API/Azure SQL/web jobs) which back Custom Translator

  • Analysis of existing systems to improve performance, scalability, and reliability of the service.

  • Responding to and addressing issues that arise in the live/production environment

  • Helping to assure that all development follows practices and principles of software development

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years experience with C#

  • 2+ years experience in a Cloud Computing Environment such as Azure or AWS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Azure DevOps build and release pipelines

  • React framework development

  • Experience with Azure Powershell and Az CLI

  • Azure SQL database development

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
