Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II - Windows Compatibility in Redmond, Washington

The Windows Compatibility team is looking for an enthusiastic, strong developer to join the team to solve compatibility issues for future Windows releases. As a developer on this team, you will have the opportunity to solve challenging compatibility problems for millions of customers. You will be contributing to the design and implementation of compatibility engineering tools and infrastructure components, and have the opportunity to work directly with our internal and external partners to identify, investigate and fix compatibility problems. This is a high impact area, as millions of Windows customers depend your work to be productive!

Software Engineer II - Windows Compatibility will work in a rewarding, agile environment that is constantly learning and improving. You will participate in all stages of constructing software: from idea conception to planning, requirements definition, development and testing. Candidates will need to demonstrate deep technical knowledge and development expertise to Eng tools, triage, investigate and fix compatibility issues in a broad variety of leading-edge third party and first party applications. As part of the role, the candidate will need to work closely with other engineering groups, provide partners with feedback, and provide your expertise to influence the roadmap for future product releases.

Responsibilities

  • Modernize the Compat Eng tools with robust security guidelines,

  • Build a strong infrastructure to run the Compat automation and compatibility coverage  

  • Planning, designing and developing Windows Compatibility Eng tools and Infrastructure to support new customer scenarios and advance platform features.

  • Working with internal and external partners to understand Windows Compatibility challenges and deliver solution.

  • Investigating Compatibility bugs reported from customers and solve these problems

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, C#, SQL, C and C++ OR equivalent experience.

  • 1 + year technical experience in designing, coding, and reviewing robust, scalable, understandable code.

  • 1+ year experience with problem solving and debugging skill.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C#, SQL, C and C++ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C#, SQL, C and C++ OR equivalent experience.

  • Previous knowledge in operating system and algorithm experience as technical key person.

  • Experience working in cross team project.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
