Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II - Containers/C/C++/Go/Rust in Redmond, Washington

The Virtual Machines and Containers team is looking for a talented and highly motivated software engineer to design and develop the next generation of our container platform. We’re leveraging the capabilities of the open source containerd runtime to bring the power of containers to the Microsoft Azure platform, Edge platforms, and a multitude of cloud services. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who can learn quickly, have a passion for writing high quality software and enjoy collaborating with a dynamic team.

We are part of the Azure Edge + Platform organization which brings together Edge platforms, devices, and services to deliver Edge solutions, operating systems, and engineering systems.


In this position you will work directly with a dynamic team of engineers to design, implement and support the container platform used throughout Microsoft’s Azure and Edge platforms. You’ll collaborate with teams using Kubernetes to orchestrate both internal and external container workloads. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with the open source community on the containerd runtime components. You’ll build solutions for running both Windows and Linux containers.


Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, EE, CE or Mathematics or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Go or Rust OR equivalent experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Solid architectural skills backed up by implementation experience

  • Strong coding, debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong understanding of systems software

  • Experience with containers, networking and security
