Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II - Azure Edge and Platform in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Azure Edge + Platform (E+P) is a globally distributed team of engineers, architects, program managers, product managers, business program managers, business administrators, user experience researchers, and designers. Our responsibility is to manage the platform for Microsoft and deliver Microsoft’s edge vision. We create the most reliable and trustworthy OS and platform services, empowering both Microsoft and our customers to achieve more. Our focus extends to unlocking the next wave of opportunity at the edge through an at-scale ecosystem that drives widespread adoption of our Microsoft cloud services.

Our team’s charter encompasses a wide range of responsibilities. We own service that deploys and manages critical configurations on millions of nodes in Azure. Additionally, we build automation tools to facilitate efficient interactions with Azure, provide insights using data to enhance OS reliability and improve Azure business operations, and manage critical OS features actively running on millions of Azure nodes. Furthermore, we’re expanding our reach into the Windows Server and Client space. Currently, we’re seeking to add a Software Engineer II to our team.

As a Software Engineer II on our team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that leverage cutting-edge technologies and tools. You’ll design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-quality software/data solutions. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with other engineers, program managers, and partners across Microsoft to deliver end-to-end solutions that meet customer needs and business goals. Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a service to deploy critical configurations in Azure.

  • Assist in investigating and mitigating live-site issues to ensure high quality of the service.

  • Leverage telemetry and monitoring to provide insights into OS kernel components to improve OS reliability.

  • Drive system features and updates fully from design through deployment and production monitoring.

  • Implement basic code to extract raw data, validate its quality, and ensure the correct data is ingested within your area of work. Apply basic modification techniques to transform raw data into forms compatible with downstream data sources.

  • Contribute to the development of data tools that can transform, manage, and access data. Validate code to test the storage and availability of data platforms.

  • Follow data modeling and handling procedures to maintain compliance with all applicable laws and policies across your assigned workstreams.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, Rust

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years' experience in Software/Data Engineering.

  • 1+ years' exposure to Azure Data Explorer / Kusto Query Language / Machine Learning algorithms.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, Rust

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, Rust

  • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
