Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

We are looking for an engineering leader to build and launch Kuiper's Field Service Management capabilities (FSM). FSM plays a key role in helping Kuiper customers get access to services such as professional installation in order to establish internet connectively. FSM systems will be in-charge of integration with Third-party service providers to provision technician capacity, work order management & execution, which includes building a Technician Mobile App. We also own integrations with applications like the Kuiper commerce website & mobile app to schedule, manage and track field services.

As the Software Engineering Manager you will own building a strong engineering team and leading them to deliver the FSM product and ensuring that it will delight our customers, stakeholders and partners. Key job responsibilities

• Aid in the design and delivery of broad range of software Applications and Services .

• Develop the technical strategy to deliver these products at scale globally

• Work with our peer teams and stakeholders to design suitable software systems and interfaces to fulfill the customer needs.

• Develop a strategic plan for the growth of the team, both from a software services and organization perspective.

• Hire & Develop a diverse team of software engineers.

• Collaborate with your fellow team members to form a strong foundation for a software organization in Project Kuiper.

• Help on-board and mentor new team members.

**This role is located in Redmond, WA and candidate will be required to be onsite. No location flexibility.

A day in the life

You will be part of a startup team that will tackle a broad set of greenfield problems and define the suite of products that will help Kuiper operate and scale. You will work with Product Management and Business Stakeholders on defining the roadmap for the suite of products necessary for Kuiper's operation. You will own solving this for multiple customer segments and building software that is flexible for many different customers and countries.

About the team

The Software and Networking organization is responsible for all of the software, services and infrastructure needed to securely and safely fly each Kuiper satellite, manage Kuiper's satellite constellation, control Kuiper's ground infrastructure and deliver highly available network services to our customers around the world.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
