We are looking for a motivated, technically oriented Service Engineer to manage the telecommunication services across Microsoft’s Enterprise footprint. Our objective is to fully transform the telecommunication services, making it as simple, intuitive, and reliable as possible while enabling the next level of productivity for both internal and external customers.
The Service Engineer role would be to engineer and manage all Telecom related projects supporting the business units and subsidiaries within Microsoft. The Service Engineer is also responsible for the overall strategy and oversight of the day-to-day tactical implementation of telecommunications e911. This would include any remaining analog telecom as well as Teams PSTN hosted on the Corp tenant as well as the Government tenant. The foundational requirements for e911 would be aligned in accordance with US Federal, State, and local regulations and procedures. This focus would include high priority on compliance with Ray Baum act and dynamic location accuracy across the Microsoft enterprise. Although the core focus is on the US other countries must be considered and reviewed for compliance. In support of this ongoing effort there would need to be strong partnerships and key decision making with multiple teams as the work crosses many organizational boundaries.
Reports to the Regional Telecom Engineer Manager
Gather projects requirements, create technical design documentation, and partner with local in-country resources or vendors to deliver the projects.
Engineer, manage and deliver multiple, independent Telephony projects within proposed budget and timelines. This includes managing of vendors and ensures compliance to the Corporate Telecom standards and guidelines.
Configure and Maintain Microsoft M365 Teams and Skype for Business and AVAYA PBX, given a technical specification on the features and functionality required. This would include managing and configuring Microsoft M365 Teams and Skype for Business Telephony system, SIP gateways, AVAYA PBX, and Exchange Unified Messaging systems.
Delivery of moderately complex analytical and evaluative information for use by others
Provide project proposal estimations and investigate new features or technologies that would improve productivity of the end-users.
Consults with Teams Service Manager for all e911 strategic planning
Makes annual fiscal budget and e911 program tactical delivery forecasts
Liaison with other teams on a regular schedule to ensure current Microsoft standards are in alignment with existing regulations
Partner with other teams for long term visibility into the building portfolio (adds, removes, retrofit, etc.) and plan for any required e911 related adjustments
Negotiate for local site assistance for regular/quarterly e911 data quality checks (test calls)
Own the relationship with the Emergency Service Routing provider
Service ownership of the IPSec tunnel setup with Emergency Service Routing provider
Evaluate global emergency services standards and ensure compliance
Accountable for holding partner teams for quality and accuracy within various dependent data sources, such as subnet, BSSID as well as LLDP
Determine signage updates as necessary within the Microsoft offices
Regular reviews with other teams to ensure current e911 technology aligns with requirements
Alignment with designated teams for regular change management reviews and quality evaluations
Regular reporting into leadership on emergency services compliance and activities
4+ years experience in Telecommunications industry working on unified communications, Microsoft Microsoft M365 Teams and Skype for Business, IP-PBX and AVAYA Telephony systems.
5+ years experience in design and deployment of global large enterprise Telephony communications systems
At least 2 years experience working in a complex e911 enterprise environment including the ability to plan, organize and direct complex updates and drive for compliance with new e911 regulations
Deep understanding of Federal Communications Commission regulations pertaining to Ray Baum Act and the requirements to reach compliance
Ability to configure Microsoft M365 Teams and Skype for Business Telephony system, SIP gateways, AVAYA PBX, and Exchange Unified Messaging, Contact Center, given a technical specification on the features and functionality required.
Expert technical knowledge of the individual components that make up TDM and IP Telephony systems. Strong understanding of various protocols in the IP Telephony space
Ability to work with data network engineering team on the requirements needed for setting up IP telephony specifically around TCP/IP, SIP, RTP, SRTP, DHCP, DNS, AD, SQL, VLAN and QoS
Ability to work on Microsoft Servers
Ability to collect and analyze cost information and deliver a proposed cost reduction plan.
Ability to create, read, interpret, communicate and implement complex specs
Ability to analyze, interpret and communicate extremely complex systems and new technologies. Specifically relating to Microsoft M365 Teams and Skype for Business, Telephony and Conferencing Systems.
Confident to react quickly to ensure life and safety systems are running optimally
Expert problem resolution, identification, and decision-making skills
Strong communication skills, oral and written. Ability to communicate strategies, methodology, and tools to work group members, project team and senior management.
Strong planning, organizing, coordination and multi-tasking skills. Able to understand the relationship of the components. Anticipate and effectively deal with problems and roadblocks.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in hardware, software, and services aspects of the overall telecommunication services with a track record of strong customer advocacy. We are looking for candidates that demonstrate strong business acumen, thought leadership, critical thinking, and negotiation skills. They must be able to balance technical and business objectives and engage and influence senior leaders internally and externally to deliver high quality solutions and user experiences. Effective negotiating, influencing, and leadership skills mixed with creativity and deep subject matter expertise will be essential to achieve strategic alignment of goals across this broad range of stakeholders. In addition, this individual would demonstrate the ability to ensure highly resilient and scalable service designs through partnership with other members of the service team.
