Microsoft Corporation Senior UX Researcher in Redmond, Washington

The Microsoft Cloud for Industry team is looking for a passionate and innovative Senior UX Researcher to craft our growing UX research practice for our growing team. We are a diverse team of researchers that come from various research backgrounds that include academia and applied product design. As a member of the Industry Cloud Design Studio, you'll be working on the cutting edge of enterprise cloud applications, working with Microsoft product teams and external partners to define and execute high-quality experiences built on the latest technology. As a Senior UX Researcher in this space, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring product-user fit, clarifying breakthrough opportunities, identifying risks, implementing UX research best practices, and empowering your colleagues to do the same.

You will build an understanding of users and market and conduct analyses in a fast-paced environment. You’ll have experience conducting a variety of analyses in different situations, from exploratory analyses to generative hypotheses to driving UX health metrics that shape product experience. You’ll influence change at all stages of product development by delivering exciting oral, written, and visual presentations about your insights. Your primary job as an advocate for our users is to help the product team understand what would make a user’s experiences natural, useful, and delightful.

You should have experience conducting research in a complex technology domain and a passion for understanding needs of users across a wide range of technical abilities. A big part of this role will be helping change organizational culture – you should be energized and find meaning in mentoring and achieving impact through others.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary product teams to identify high-impact opportunities for User Research in the rapidly growing enterprise space and translating those opportunities into a comprehensive UX research program.

  • Conduct a mixture of qualitative and quantitative research activities to inform product design.

  • Communicate your findings in a clear, concise, and visual (when appropriate) manner to key stakeholders and drive meaningful action based on those findings.

  • Scale your impact through research coaching, enablement, and evangelizing best practice.

  • Contribute to evolution of standards for enterprise user research practice in partnership with other Microsoft researchers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 4+ years User Experience Research experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 3+ years User Experience Research experience

  • OR Doctorate in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 1+ year(s) User Experience Research experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience conducting product design research.

  • 4+ experience applying a wide variety of design research methodologies including, but not limited to: usability studies, field studies, in-depth interviews, heuristic evaluations, concept validation, user journey maps, benchmarks, scorecards, competitive reviews, surveys and experience with UI design best practices and agile software development.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • OR Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 6+ years User Experience Research experience

  • OR Doctorate in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 3+ years User Experience Research experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years relevant domain experience within technology sector.

  • 3+ years experience in research methods impacting both product direction and detailed experience design.

UX Research IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
