We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager (Sr. TPM) – Hardware Technology Engineering to join the CO+I Systems Technology team. This role focuses on enabling innovation across two areas:

  1. Advanced cooling and power or

  2. Carbon reduction technologies for AI cloud infrastructure across both hardware and datacenter environments. You will lead the integration of cutting-edge technologies, scale new innovations, and drive the planning and reliability roadmap to enhance future datacenters' efficiency and sustainability. 

In this pivotal role, you will be the project management lead and partner with a technical subject matter expert to innovative on liquid cooling and power & carbon footprint reduction projects. This is a hands-on role, with work at lab facilities in the Redmond, WA area and traveling to data centers/vendor facilities on occasion. You will gain valuable skills in advanced technology evaluation, planning, and execution, while collaborating with other TPMs and technologists to solve complex challenges. Responsibilities

  • Technology Roadmap Ownership: Drive and own the technology roadmap, facilitating adaptation and scalability.

  • Project Management : Support innovative projects from ideation to productization, ensuring alignment with Microsoft’s sustainability and business objectives.Manage multiple programs, technologies, and disciplines. Structure and communicate milestones, commitments, budgets, and project plans.Ensure effective time management and prioritization, and flag/mitigate risks to project deliverables.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with technical SMEs to synthesize and then convey the technological impact to leadership.

  • Supplier Management: Build and manage contracts, track budgets, deliverables, and milestone timelines with suppliers.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategic plans; orchestrate technology evaluation and planning in partnership with teams across the company to ensure long-term growth.

  • Performance and Reliability roadmap : Define business success criteria incorporating availability, reliability, and performance OKRs; address roadmap challenges through data-driven approaches, studies, and research.

  • Technical Expertise: Weigh in on industry trends potentially related to hardware, servers, data center cooling, liquid cooling (chip to chiller, direct to chip, microfluidics, immersion..),carbon capture technologies, power, sustainability, or network innovations for cloud infrastructure.

  • R elationship Building: Navigate complex organizationstructures to build partnerships, trust, and collaborationsto drive momentum around adopting cutting edge technologies.

  • Technical Communication: Translate deep engineering and technical concepts into business-centric communication for executive-level stakeholders.

  • Initiative Drive: Drive technological initiatives from concepts to larger projects, including:

  • Early incubation planning and budgeting

  • Defining success criteria

  • Identifying business impact

  • Partner outreach

  • Arranging/planning roadshows

  • Planning next stages using project management software (e.g., Wrike, MS Projects)

  • Managing and planning knowledge and ownership transfers

  • Trend Monitoring: Stay current with technology trends by monitoring and analyzing developments in cloud technology and sustainability, identifying best practices and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years' experience in engineering (Electrical or Computer or Mechanical), product/technical program management, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years' experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 4+ years' experience in working and collaborating between technology and suppliers/start-ups teams

  • 4+ years' experience in building technology/product roadmap from incubation to scale execution

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in hardware, data center management, program management engineering, new product introduction, and risk management.

  • Familiarity with innovation & disruptive technology development process

  • Ambiguity Management: Ability to navigate ambiguity, assess opportunities, develop principles to prioritize multiple strategic and tactical options, and drive issues to closure with a commitment to high-quality outcomes.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Proven ability to work and collaborate effectively with a wide range of business stakeholders to achieve impactful results.

  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Track record of innovative problem-solving in cutting-edge technological contexts.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate across diverse teams and influence executive-level stakeholders.

  • Global Project Management: Experience managing and implementing technological projects on a global scale, ensuring compliance with international standards and best practices.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
