The SPARC organization manages Azure’s hardware roadmap from architecture concept through production for all of Microsoft’s current and future online services.

Responsibilities

  • Development and evaluation of NETWORKING technologies to deliver leading-edge capabilities for Azure, focusing on delivering high throughput, low latency, reliable communication for large-scale next-gen AI systems.

  • Focused on simulation-driven evaluation of advanced networking technologies covering the entire system, including topology, software, network interfaces, switches, and optimizations across all aspects of the networking stack, including transport protocol, congestion control, load balancing, failure recovery mechanisms, collective operations, and communication library implementation.

  • Ability to learn and adopt relevant new technologies, tools, methods and processes from Microsoft, industry, and the research community.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Working knowledge in computer networking, thorough understanding of transport protocols, traffic patterns, flow control, load balancing, congestion control.

  • Experience with network simulation infrastructure and tools (e.g., NS3, OMNeT++, Booksim).

  • Familiarity with architecture and implementation details of network interface cards and switching hardware.

  • Experience with high-performance networking, including working with NVLink, InfiniBand and/or RDMA protocols (e.g., RoCEv2, iWARP), MPI, libfabric (OFI), and collective communication libraries (e.g., NCCL, RCCL, MSCCL).

  • Growth mindset/curiosity for learning and deploying new technologies.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
