The Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. Our SCHIE’s Firmware Center of Excellence (FW COE), create the foundational firmware that powers the Microsoft Cloud. Our firmware lights up millions of servers and racks across the globe, enabling users to do everything from running blogs to crunching through powerful AI algorithms. Our SCHIE FWCOE team supports this goal by embracing the Continuous Development/Continuous Deployment mindset to define, implement and scale a centralized build/test infrastructure with the end goal to ensure that release code is the highest quality possible. By doing this correctly … we increase component quality, decrease firmware/software component validation/release times, decrease overall engineering/development/hardware costs, and increase deployed system uptimes which all lead to an increase in overall satisfaction for our Azure customers.

Responsibilities

  • Be involved with all phases of software development, from software design, architecture, and development.

  • Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders like Hardware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, System Architects, Program Management, etc. to create delightful and robust software solutions.

  • Write software that scales well and interfaces with the Operating Systems and Firmware as a part of an end-to-end solution.

  • Ability to solve problems relating to mission-critical services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence.

  • Design, implement, scale, and support a centralized Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) infrastructure based on internal customer and business spanning multiple teams and orgs.

  • Support CI/CD as a service – review results, debug issues, fix problems.

  • Proactively identify areas in the tooling/infrastructure that need improvement based on KPI’s and make appropriate improvements.

  • Create and maintain reports tracking the quality of the centralized CI/CD service.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C#, Python, or C

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 4+ years of experience in Test Development including concept, design, implementation, and maintenance

  • 4 + years of experience in Service, Software/Hardware Driver, or Firmware development

  • 2+ years of DevOP’s experience including development, deployment, maintenance

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in the following areas

  • Azure Dev Ops automated pipeline creation and support

  • Automation Frameworks: Robot and Rust

  • Azure Subscription configuration, maintenance, and support

  • Live site service development, support, and reporting

  • OS Debugging: Utilities/tools/tests

  • Owning or driving development projects across multiple teams

  • Windows and Linux development

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
