Microsoft Entra is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and help tackle some of our most complex problems – our Routing team, of which you would be a part, is charged to increase availability of mission-critical services, building better software to serve over 1B humans globally. Are you passionate about distributed systems, and how to build and run them at extreme scale? Are you curious, a learner, someone who wants to grow in the craft of software engineering? You will work on some lynchpin services in Microsoft Entra, e.g. traffic management, runtime platform (K8s) or livesite management. These services process millions of requests per second, powering hundreds of billions of authentications per day, and with challenging availability targets (>99.99%).

Responsibilities

You will be part of the team shipping critical software quickly and safely. This is a hands-on role, you will need to be a team player, equally comfortable designing the better mousetrap, and rolling up your sleeves to ship the new mousetrap from whiteboard into production. Stellar communication skills.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python o OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python o OR equivalent experience.

  • Expertise in object-oriented language skills and experience in writing high-performance, thread-safe code that allows for serving requests in sub-millisecond times.

  • In depth knowledge of computer networking skills, understanding of newer protocols such as H2, H3, TLS1.3 and gRPC.

  • Expertise in debugging hard livesite problems and building automation to run a high-scale service distributed system (e.g reverse proxy) at >99.99% SLA.

  • Expertise in various webserver frameworks such as nginx, Kestrel and HTTP.Sys, with a track record as a hands-on engineer designing and delivering elegant solutions to meet complex design and architectural challenges in a cloud services environment.

  • Deep practical experience operating high-scale services in production environments. You’ve got hard-earned experience and opinions on what great observability looks like, what safe deployments look like and whether to push code on Fridays.

  • Excellent communications skills, comfortable presenting to large audiences and customers.

  • Prior experience with performance analysis and optimization of web services and software.

  • Prior experience building services which run on Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

  • Prior experience working in the Identity and/or Security domains.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
