The Commerce + Ecosystems (C+E) Commerce team is working to enable an easier experience for customers and partners to grow, as well as to buy and do business with us by delivering a dependable, safe, and secure commerce infrastructure. The Ecosystems team is committed to driving discovery and awareness of Microsoft within our ecosystem of products and services, as well as reaching technical communities around the globe.

We are part of the Commerce + Ecosystems (C+E) team and responsible for the Business Applications and Platform products International Engineering. Our team supports a wide range of business applications and products including Copilots such as Power Platform, Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot for Service, Copilot for Sales, Dynamics 365 for Sales to name a few.

We work closely with Engineering and Skilling teams to ensure globalization and localizability of all products that we support. We also work closely with our external localization supplier to produce world-ready localized versions of our products and content into multiple languages to serve the needs of our customers worldwide.

We rely on internal solutions and services created specifically to optimize and streamline our localization process, to capture and analyze our business data, to enable fast translation turnaround times, to connect to services provided by our localization suppliers and 3rd-party services, and to simplify and support the needs of complex localization projects.

As a Senior Software Engineer you will play a strategic and crucial role in enhancing our translation solutions. You will work closely with all stakeholders to plan, design and deliver on the solution requirements and identifying future direction/design. You will work to identify backend improvements, making all our solutions full cloud services and identifying areas for AI investment. This means working with a diverse set of technologies particularly in the areas of Azure (Azure SQL Server, Azure App Services, Azure Active Directory) and AI. Your contributions will directly influence the user experience by making our product translation workflows simpler, more automated and more efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers, technical leads, data scientists, translation supplier engineering) to determine user requirements for a set of features. Leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. Incorporates appropriate continuous feedback loops measuring customer value, usage patterns, and other actionable metrics of value.

  • Contributes to processes for the architecture of a product/solution feature and create proposals for architecture by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans. Contributes to the development of design documents for designs or User Stories with oversight and determines the technology that will be leveraged and how it will interact. Escalates and shares findings from investigations with the team and drives design decisions. Helps to ensure system architecture meets security and compliance requirements.

  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight. Identifies other teams and technologies that will be leveraged, how they will interact, and when one's system may provide support to others. Contributes to determining back-end dependencies associated with product, application, service, or platform functionality for product features. Understands downstream effects of solutions and work provided. Helps to identify areas of dependency and overlap with other teams or team members and drives coordination.

  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Applies coding patterns and best practices to write code.

  • Supports efforts to apply debugging tools and examines logs, telemetry, and other methods to verify assumptions proactively before issues occur and reactively as issues occur for product features. Conducts retrospective debugging of solutions to identify root causes of problems.

  • Contributes to efforts to collect, classify, and analyze data with little oversight on a range of metrics (e.g., health of the system, where bugs might be occurring). Contributes to the refinement of product features by escalating findings from analyses to inform decisions regarding the engineering of products.

  • Applies best practices to reliably build code that is based on well-established methods while also applying best practices for new code development. Demonstrates and maintains an up-to-date understanding of both global and local regulations for technologies and system applications to ensure regulations are met. Follows best practices for product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years industry development experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, ASP.NET/HTML/CSS, SOAP/REST web services, PowerShell Scripts

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of industry software development and site reliability experience.

  • 4+ years of professional Full Stack development experience in Azure Cloud Technologies.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with Azure technologies and AI.

  • Prior experience developing in Azure DevOps environments.

  • Proven design and problem-solving skills, with a passion for security compliance, highly performant applications, quality, and excellence at scale. Great curiosity and willingness to question.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of world-readiness software engineering, building, and supporting globalized and localizable software.

  • Solve problems by always leading with customer obsession and efficient solutions. Driven by the challenge of complex technical problems.

  • Proven experience developing distributed systems, including high-performance distributed storage, databases, and networking.

  • Demonstrated experience of cross group collaboration on problem solving, finding win/win solutions, and celebrating successes.

  • Knowledge of Linguistics concepts and fluency in another language is plus.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
