Within Azure Data, the business intelligence team builds and maintains Power BI which is the undisputed leader in BI tool in the industry today and serves as the bridge between data professionals & Office users. Power BI’s core value proposition is to enable end users to get answers & insights from their data through data visualization. To enable securely scaling and distributing content to millions of users, Power BI's core service builds on top of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric & Copilots.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer that is experienced in distributed cloud service engineers, focusing on platform scalability and security. You'll have opportunity to help define service architecture & patterns, work closely with technical experts across Azure Data, and ensure security fundamentals. As a broadly scoped role, you’ll have opportunities to work across components, mentor with area experts, and make an impact on the critical systems powering the Power BI cloud service.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discussions for the architecture of products/solutions, creating proposals by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans. Assure system architecture meets security and compliance requirements and expectations.

  • Apply debugging tools and examines logs, telemetry, and other methods to verify assumptions through writing and developing code proactively before issues occur. Conduct retrospectives & debugging of solutions to identify root causes of problems.

  • Review code to assure it meets the team's and Microsoft’s quality standards, ensuring reliability and accuracy. Consider diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience developing and maintaining large-scale distributed systems. Familiarity with cloud design patterns and practices.

  • Experience using cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon Web Services

  • Familiarity with OAuth, AAD/Entra or similar Authentication & Authorization technologies

  • Background in software or network security

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
