Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

The Web Experiences organization in Microsoft is several thousand software engineers strong, working on Bing search, Edge browser, Maps, Ads, News, Windows and other projects. As a platform team we support hundreds of developers and work with multiple teams. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the team and will work in a small agile team with smart, passionate engineers to bring products from inception to production. We strongly believe that collaboration enables better products, so you will work closely with Product Managers and other engineers to design solutions. As our applications continue to evolve, you will have a significant voice in deciding which best practices and tooling we adopt.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer in the Fundamentals team, you will build our next-generation front-end layer that powers all the online experiences for products like Copilot, Bing, Microsoft News, Advertising, and the Edge Browser. You will work with engineers across different parts of the organization to make their services more reliable and performant. Apart from learning through technical challenges on our team, you will get to contribute to complex systems that power some of the biggest online services for search, maps, and advertising on the planet.

  • Building highly scalable, highly available services that get deployed across the world

  • Collaborating with partner teams that deliver experiences like multimedia search, advertising, enterprise search, to deliver platform-level features across all of them

  • Design, write and implement services with performance, efficiency, re-usability, and maintainability as core focus

  • Develop systems and toolsets that work across multiple orchestrators, source control, and build systems (ADO and GitHub)

  • Mentor engineers in the team by providing hands-on assistance, best practices, and promoting an inclusive learning environment.

  • Contribute to several Open-Source projects we work with

  • Closely work with the .NET Core team to optimize performance and with teams behind Azure Kubernetes Service to help deploy and run extremely large services

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, ASP.NET, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, ASP.NET, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, ASP.NET, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines like Azure DevOps, GitHub Workflow etc.

  • Familiarity with Windows and *nix operating systems

  • Exposure to Kubernetes and CNCF-friendly proxies like Envoy, Istio etc.

  • Good understanding of UX frameworks and HTTP protocol basics

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity to prioritize issues

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
