Microsoft Corporation Senior Research Scientist in Redmond, Washington

Semantic Machines is seeking effective AI researchers to join our world-class team. As a Senior Research Scientist, you will be part of an ambitious plan to reshape human-computer interaction. This includes the ability to influence the design and implementation of conversational AI at Microsoft, and to have impact through publications in the academic community.

Your research will engage on topics such as novel neural architectures, program synthesis, retrieval augmented generation, automated reasoning, and understanding multiparty conversational dynamics. You will work in a collegial team environment, designing and executing experiments, and developing prototypes of future technologies. As appropriate you will provide support for the onboarding and mentoring of research interns. We are flexible on location, with team members distributed from the Pacific to Eastern time zones, in locations such as Berkeley, CA, New York, NY, Balitmore, MD, and Redmond, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying and driving new research directions, creating new technologies and collaborating with Microsoft product groups and external partners to deploy them in real-world settings.

  • Stay current with the latest trends, research, and developments in AI, machine learning, and system architecture to ensure our systems remain at the forefront of innovation.

  • Evaluate the performance of AI-centric systems and provide recommendations for improvement and optimization.

  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and other relevant venues, and present research results to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Mentor and guide researchers and engineers in their research and development efforts.

  • Collaborate with industry partners and academic institutions to drive joint research projects and initiatives

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in relevant field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., research, software engineering) OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in relevant field AND 2+ years related research experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.

  • Experience participating in a top conference in relevant research domain.

Research Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
