Microsoft Corporation Senior Research Scientist in Redmond, Washington

The Data and AI team in Microsoft’s Developer Division is working on the future of AI-powered developer tools such as Github Copilot used by millions of developers around the world! Pushing the boundary of knowledge in the interdisciplinary world of NLP(Natural Language processing) and software engineering, our team brings the state of the art to development environments, debuggers, DevOps, CLI(Commond-line Interface), and Azure cloud tools. This opportunity offers both the intellectual challenge of creating knowledge and working with large-scale product environments.

We are looking for a passionate, highly motivated, and innovative Research Scientist working on the future of AI-powered developer tools.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include keeping up to date with the research literatures, creating new datasets from both the world’s public code and Microsoft’s internal data, building and managing large-scale ML(Machine Language) experiments and models, creating new benchmarks, presenting work to both internal teams and public conferences, and using proficient writing skills for producing both papers and patents.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in relevant field 

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years development skills in Python, C#, C ++, or Java.

  • Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor at software engineering, machine learning or NLP conferences.

Research Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
