The research effort includes a diversestaff of theoreticaland experimental physicists, hardware designers and software engineers around the world.Our CryoCMOS team, is looking for an experiencedASIC designerto participate in the research and development of essential building blocks in the control and readout chain of our quantum hardware implementations.

The candidate will be based in the Microsoft quantum labs and offices in Redmond, USA, but will be part of the CryoCMOS team based in Sydney, Australia. Travel to other Microsoft quantum labs based in Australia and Netherlands may be required.

We are looking for someone who isas passionate about their own contribution as they areto empoweringand inspiring others.The candidate will be responsible forcontributing to thetechnicaldirection of the researchbased on system and block design ideas and simulations, experimental results,program needs and the input fromcross-functionalcolleagues.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the architecture, specification, design, test and development of CryoCMOS functions and ASICs to support the full-stack quantum hardware implementations.

  • Design, simulation and layout of full-custom high performance CMOS analog circuits and complexanalog functional blocks such as ADCs, DACs, PLLs, VCOs, SerDes, RF building blocks, and auxiliary/supporting blocks.

  • Perform physical verification including DRC, LVS, ERC, IR drop analysis.

  • Contribute to and perform comprehensive documentation of the designs and publications in scientific literature.

  • Contribute to the design of bring-up and characterizationhardware and software setups for testing the developedASICs.

  • Conductcryogenic and room temperature measurements of the ASICs and perform analysis and reporting of the measurement results.

  • Uselab best practices and protocols.

  • Workin accordancewithhealth and safetypolicies andtakecare that your actions do notimpacton the health and safety of yourself or others.

  • Ensure hazards and risks are identified and controlled for within your area of responsibility.



The successful candidatewill have the following qualifications:

  • PhD or Masters degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • 3+years of experiencein ASIC hardware design and test.

Desired Skills:

  • Deep experience with EDA software for analog and mixed-signal design and simulation (Virtuoso suite).

  • Understanding of digital design, simulation, and verification(verilog/systemverilogncsim/vhdl, vcs, ncsim).

  • Experience in the design ofanalog building blocks such as ADCs, DACs, PLLs, RF blocks, and have a thorough understanding of their design procedures and trade-offs is highly desirable.

  • Experience/exposure to low-temperature circuit design and measurements is highly valuable.

  • Knowledge of quantum physics, behaviour of semiconductors at cryogenic temperatures is desirable.

  • Familiarity with signal integrity analysis and design methods.

  • Familiarity with scripting, coding and the ability to work in a Linux environment is highly desirable.

  • Excellent teamplayerand excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations in a rapidly changing research environment.

  • Demonstrated experience with report writing and documentation.
