We are seeking a Senior Project Arborist (Environmental Scientist 2) to join our Redmond, WA team! Come join us!

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Arborist to join our multi-disciplinary environmental team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting tree inventories, risk assessments, and preservation planning for transportation and infrastructure projects in the Pacific Northwest. This role requires expertise in tree species identification, health assessments, risk evaluation, and regulatory compliance to support project development and permitting.
The Project Arborist will collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and project managers to develop and implement tree protection and mitigation strategies. Responsibilities include preparing technical reports, tree retention plans, and permit applications in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. The candidate must possess strong technical writing and GIS proficiency to communicate findings effectively with clients and stakeholders.

Minimum requirements:
Certification: Must hold an ISA Certified Arborist credential and be in good standing. Additional certifications such as ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) are highly preferred.
Experience: At least 4 years of experience managing trees in a construction setting with expertise in drafting and implementing tree protection best management practices (BMPs).
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Forestry, Environmental Science, Biology, Botany, or a related field. Candidates with extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Technical Writing Skills: Strong ability to draft clear, concise, and easy-to-understand work plans, tree protection measures, and compliance reports.
Collaboration & Communication: Demonstrated experience working with engineers, landscape architects, contractors, and environmental planners to integrate arboricultural best practices into project designs.
Tree Replacement & Compliance Expertise: Proven ability to conduct complex tree replacement analysis and develop retention strategies that align with environmental regulations and project requirements.
Leading People: Experience mentoring and leading teams of arborists, field staff, or environmental professionals, including providing technical guidance, training, and quality control for tree assessments and reports.
Technical requirements:
Proficiency in GIS mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and GPS data collection for tree inventories and assessments.
Experience with tree risk assessment methodologies, such as ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) or other industry-recognized standards.
Familiarity with construction-related tree protection measures, including root zone protection, soil compaction mitigation, and impact assessments.
Ability to interpret and apply tree regulations, municipal codes, and environmental policies to project planning and permitting. Strong technical writing skills for preparing arborist reports, tree preservation plans, and mitigation strategies.
Other miscellaneous qualities:
Ability to work in the field for extended periods, including up to several weeks of remote fieldwork on Kitsap Peninsula and the Olympic Peninsula as project needs dictate.
Must be comfortable working in varied weather conditions and rugged terrain while conducting tree assessments.
A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are highly desirable for travel to project sites.
Compensation:
$40 - $50 hourly
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
