Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for Kuiper Tooling, you will support the program on the transition from development into stable production. You will develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment required for assembling and testing the satellite. You will need to convert the requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost effective, and accurate. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimate and scheduling. Key job responsibilities Work with vehicle, manufacturing, integration and operation teams to define and conceive creative solutions to unique problems. Design fixtures, mechanisms, and other types of hardware to support safe, efficient, and reliable testing of satellite components. Utilize engineering fundamentals to validate the design including hand-calculations and Finite Element Analysis. Geometric design using 3D CAD (NX) for parts and assemblies and 2D engineering drawings to communicate design intent. Project manage execution of design including budgeting, scheduling and working with manufacturing teams and vendors. Work directly with manufacturing and operation teams on commissioning designs on production floor. This is a team of engineers and support technicians that provide in-house unique and creative solutions on tight timelines. Bachelor\'s degree in mechanical engineering, or relevant experience 5+ years of experience with CAD design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T 3+ years of experience of structural analysis including hand calculations and finite element analysis 3+ years of experience with project management, schedule, and budgeting 5+ years of experience in the design of mechanisms, bolted and welded structures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, test fixtures, rigging, and material handling Hardware ownership for full lifecycle of a product. Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals and implementing first principles to create innovative and efficient designs. Design and analysis experience with stiffness/strength, structural dynamics, weldments, and bolted structures.
