Amazon Senior Embedded Software Dev Engineer, Antenna Team in Redmond, Washington

Join Amazon Project Kuiper. Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

In this role, you’ll be supporting the development, integration, and deployment of the world’s most advanced Phased Arrays and Modems. On this team you'll be integrating the unique algorithms that make an phased array antenna function and work in coordination with our advanced modem architecture.

Key job responsibilities

You’ll support the embedded phased array development and MAC functionality required to test a phased array and deploy advanced algorithms for tracking, control, steering, and testing.

  • Own unique embedded software functions through design, implementation (in C, C++, Python or other), test, and integration in an embedded Linux or real-time operating system (RTOS) environment.

  • Write software to interact with devices/electronics using I2C, I3C, SPI, SERDES, Ethernet, etc. communications.

  • Work closely with hardware teams to support board design, bring-up, and verification, as well as integration and test.

  • Interface with System Development engineers to automate data acquisition, transport and processing

  • Interface with Antenna Engineers to automate post-processing using third-party software suites and generation of test reports.

  • Follow best practices in high reliability embedded software development to ensure high levels of reliability and availability.

A day in the life

In this role, a typical day involves collaborating with engineers to support the development of embedded phased array technology and MAC functionality. This includes testing phased arrays, deploying advanced algorithms for tracking and control, and steering. The day may consist of analyzing data, troubleshooting technical issues, and working on software development. Additionally, the person may participate in meetings to discuss project progress and provide input on strategies for improving the performance of the phased array system. Overall, the job involves a combination of technical tasks, problem-solving, and collaboration with a team to ensure the successful development and implementation of advanced technologies for phased array systems.

About the team

Our team designs, develops, and tests the worlds most advanced phased arrays. The team consist of electromagnetic, algorithmic, software, and antenna experts which are driven to develop the Kuiper antenna systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
