Microsoft Corporation Senior Director of Commercial Planning in Redmond, Washington

The Enablement & Operations (E&O) team enables Microsoft Customer and Partner Solutions (MCAPS) Team to better serve every person and organization’s transformation and economic success. How? We design, build, and manage the levers that accelerate commercial growth—including compensation, business performance and insights, planning, skilling, tooling, and engineering.

The MCAPS E&O Planning team plays a pivotal role in driving MCAPS’ commercial priorities across the business. The team leads a collaborative global Fiscal Year Planning and Landing process inclusive of all MCAPS teams and regions, working closely with the MCAPS Leadership Team and their Planning/Landing Leaders.

As the Senior Director for Commercial Planning, you will lead both the dedicated E&O Planning team, and a critical Planning leader v-team across MCAPS and Microsoft Commercial Business (MCB). This role is critical to ensuring integrated design and implementation of all fiscal year changes to enable success through a process that brings clarity, guidance, and insights to deliver against a successful Fiscal Year transition. You will manage confidential information without exception. Bringing broad and deep business acumen, sound decision-making and operational excellence is essential in this role. This U.S.-based role offers flexibility in that you can work remotely from home or a Microsoft office near you. As part of a global team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across various time zones, mostly in Pacific Time.

Responsibilities

Commercial Planning

  • Act as a leading professional on Commercial Planning to oversee a team responsible for program design, execution, and analysis.

  • Apply strategic insight when working with cross-functional stakeholders to design an integrated Commercial Planning process from initiation to delivery, to successfully implement cross-company changes required for the new Fiscal Year.

  • Provide expertise over the project plan, timelines, milestones, performance metrics, and resource needs for Commercial Planning.

  • Establish objectives and success criteria in an inclusive, collaborative manner with all stakeholders.

  • Ensure the team understands and identifies current program risks, impact, and develops mitigation plans to ensure a successful Fiscal Year transition.

  • Enable the team to communicate the program status to relevant stakeholders and hold them accountable for following the established schedules, risk mitigation plans, and processes.

  • Ensure team capacity is prioritized correctly throughout the planning cycle.

  • Enable Regional Planning Leaders to adopt the fiscal year plan design and implement the changes locally, on-time.

  • Anticipate landing needs and facilitate teams to produce materials that deliver a connected cross-organizational narrative, inclusive of the details required to design down to specific team and role needs.

  • You will be a people leader that delivers success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.

Business Program Planning and Design

  • Ensures teams understand and identify current program risks, impact, and develops mitigation plans impacting the broader unit and/or Microsoft.

  • Oversees team that identifies and scopes opportunities to develop new programs and improve current ones impacting the broader unit and/or Microsoft.

  • Oversees team who works with cross-functional (e.g., organizational, product, business) stakeholders (e.g., Marketing) to design programs from initiation to delivery. Scales the delivery of collateral (e.g., proposals, strategy walking deck, Corp & Field marketing plan deliverables) to incorporate stakeholder needs and ensure the business objectives are met.

  • Applies subject matter expertise when overseeing teams who define and track the success criteria and performance metrics (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs] and Key Performance Indicators [KPIs]), such as quality, adoption, usage, impact, and effectiveness for the program.

Business Program Management

  • Oversees team who overlooks a portfolio of projects including the project plan, timelines, milestones, financial management, performance metrics, and resource needs for programs.

  • Ensures team capacity is aligned to project workload and complexity.

  • Ensures team communicates the program status to relevant stakeholders and holds them accountable for following the established schedule, risk mitigation plans, and processes.

  • Establishobjectives and success criteria for the project in an inclusive collaborative manner with all stakeholders.

Business Program Evaluation and Improvement

  • Oversee teams who conduct cost-benefit analyses to examine performance to value drivers (e.g., profit and loss [P&L], return on investment [ROI]). Helps teams drive monthly business review (MBR) and helps teams run rhythms regularly to identify what is working and what is not and make improvements accordingly.

  • Oversees teams who utilize direction and strategy from leadership advocate and influence sponsorship regarding business areas to create and execute plans that shift current priorities to new organizational initiatives and objectives, and influences others to change behavior accordingly.

  • Provides strategic guidance to help teams define vision and strategy for change, broad and specific impact, and the flow of communication to the organization.

  • Ensures team develops the collateral required to enable key stakeholders and others to be on board. Oversees teams who drive the training, reskilling, and mapping of individuals in partnership with Human Resources (HR).

Qualifications

  • Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 8+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years management (e.g., people, project, process, vendor, change) experience.

  • 5+ years experience in commercial fiscal year planning from initiation to delivery within a matrixed enterprise-level organization.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 12+ years experience in program management , process management, process improvement

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 10+ years program management experience, process management, process improvement

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years people management experience.

Business Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
