Microsoft Corporation Senior Designer in Redmond, Washington

Are you interested in working on a cutting-edge business that understands and values your work and sees user experience, customer experience, and service design as key strategic priorities? Join us as a * Senior Designer*  on Power BI, the next generation business intelligence with AI in the cloud. Power BI is one of the fastest growing SaaS services at Microsoft. Our mission is to empower millions of business users in organizations around the planet to achieve more with their data.  With low-code/no-code solutions, we help users analyze their data in seconds, extract business insights with AI, and consume those insights through rich visualization to enable millions of people around the world to realize their potential.

You’ll design experiences that delight Power BI users and aim to reduce the time needed to get valuable insights from their data along with onboarding users to make them more efficient by focusing on Generative AI, incorporating Large Language Models and predictive models in features. The role’s broad scope will give you ample room to apply your design thinking—both on projects that have immediate impact on the business as well as explorations that shape our long-term strategy, vision and UX direction.

The Data Cloud Studio design team is part of Azure Data business unit which is reshaping the end-to-end analytics platform for Microsoft enterprise customers and the world at large. Collectively we push the boundaries of what’s possible with the latest AI technology. The team is comprised of widely talented and diverse individuals with interesting backgrounds and sometimes perplexing passions. It’s an environment where creativity and innovation thrive, and where you can be a part of the digital transformation of business intelligence.

Our agile environment will be a good fit for you if you are:

  • Thoughtful—Deliberate and thoughtful in your choices, able to articulate your thinking on the fly across a cross-functional team balancing business priorities and different perspectives.

  • Persuasive—You’ve got the social intelligence and sales skills to understand what needs to be changed, and why. You look at criticism as a way to spur insightful conversations, not a reason to be defensive or shut down.

  • A translator of tradeoffs—There’s no perfect interface and no right answer. You’re able to create different options and translate the tradeoffs between them in the context of business objectives.

  • A facilitator—You know how to collaborate with others and let them bring their ideas and concerns to the table.

An online design portfolio is important for this role, both in terms of demonstrating your experience and as an example of your ability to create a compelling design presentation. Showcase your experience in user experience (UX) and interaction design, particularly where simplicity and ease of use were a major concern. We’d like to see a diversity of projects but be careful that your portfolio doesn't get scattered or overly long—focus on curation and quality to choose a solid collection of outcomes and design intermediaries and deliverables (especially flows, mockups, and prototypes), and be sure the portfolio demonstrates the design and thought process behind each image.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals.
