The Scheduling Service team is looking for a Senior Applied Scientist who is passionate about our vision to build state-of-the-art scheduling services. 

  

Automated scheduling is expected to schedule 2/3rds of field service work by 2025. The scheduling team is given an ambitious goal of being the scheduling service of choice across all Microsoft products and being an industry leader in this space. We are looking for innovative solutions in scheduling algorithms to meet this bold initiative.

Responsibilities

  •   We are looking for a candidate with proven optimization experience with scheduling algorithms.  

  • The candidate will be a member of the product team and collaborate closely with research organizations.  

  • Other responsibilities include designing experiments, identify success metrics and writing production code to implement the scheduling algorithm with high quality. 

  • The candidate will be expected to keep abreast of state-of-the-art approaches (including deep learning models) to address vehicle routing problems. 

Qualifications

*Required/Minimum Qualifications: *

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in vehicle routing problems or scheduling optimization (algorithms).

  • Experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD focus in Artificial Intelligence (Planning and Scheduling), Operations Research (OR) or a related field.  

  • Background in Multi-agent Planning and Scheduling and/or Operations Research. 

  • Analytical skills. 

  • Experience running your algorithms in a production environment and responding to customer inquiries.  

  • Experience in reinforcement learning. 

  • Experience in Genetic / heuristic scheduling algorithms 

  • Proven experience in solving vehicle routing problems.  

  • Demonstrated analytical abilities to dissect complex problems and propose effective solutions  

  • Proven communication and cross-team collaboration skills. 

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
