Amazon Corporate LLC Senior Antenna Engineer, Kuiper Antenna Test Infrastructure in Redmond, Washington
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of LEO satellites that will provide broadband connectivity to underserved communities around the world. As a Sr. Antenna Engineer you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to develop and execute tests of phased array antennas and customer terminals using our state-of-the-art spherical near-field antenna test systems. You\'ll design new antenna test systems to dramatically accelerate antenna beam pattern test, dynamic beam pointing test, and link verification. Your will leverage your experience in antenna design to interpret the results in both near field and far field and isolate issues relative to RF circuit, test equipment, setup, array calibration and software/RF system. You will exercise pragmatism and write automation to devise test setups and procedures that are simple, easy to develop and maintain, yet able to perform all requirement verification tasks. You\'ll use documentation and communication skills to report test metrics and requirement pass/fail to Antenna designer, Array designers, Software team, and other teams. Export Control Requirement Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilities - Develop new techniques to measure and accelerate the test of digital phased array systems and customer terminals in near field chambers, and work with SysDev engineers to implement such techniques. - Develop automation routines to control equipment (ATE) and our custom-made antenna test system to accelerate antenna beam pattern test. - Define test plans and procedures for lab and chamber testing - Ensure required test coverage to verify requirements and validate models - Implement, validate, and optimize lab and chamber test configurations - Develop required post-processing to analyze test results - Document and interpret test results, troubleshoot issues, performing root-cause analysis for any test failures - Communicate status and issues effectively with developers and managers - Meet with suppliers to select enabling lab technologies. - Support integration of antennas and customer terminals into the rest of the Kuiper system. - Shepherd antennas and customer terminals through test campaigns throughout the development lifecycle, from concept to implementation to integration. We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations: Redmond, WA, USA - BS degree in EE with some RF and antenna coursework or research, or equivalent experience - 5+ years of experience EM modeling in 2.5D and 3D EM tools - 5+ years of experience in RF design and modeling with linear and non-linear simulation tools - 3+ years of experience with MATLAB - Experience with design, implementation and verification with launched antenna products. - Experience with lab work and RF test equipment - Experience with Automation of Test Equipment - MSc or PhD in EE with RF- or antenna-related thesis research - Strong foundations in antennas: Impedance matching, theoretical and practical limitations of antennas - Strong foundations in arrays: design, calibration, system considerations and test. - Excellent mathematical skills - 3+ years of experience with Near Field test and NF2FF transform of antennas and phased arrays (planar, spherical or Satimo-multiprobe) - 3+ years of experience in Automated Test Equipment - Experience with testing of digitally modulated signals - Design experience of RF building blocks such as filters, hybrids, combiners - Experience with active RF circuits and front-end design Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets.
