The Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) is looking for a Senior Security Operations Manager for our US Government Cloud who will focus on leading a team that will be responsible for detection, investigation, and response. You will be a part of defending our customer base focused on identifying new attacks, coordinating large scale response and investigating issues.

MSRC seeks motivated, experienced security professionals to join our team. There are few places in Microsoft that have as much direct impact on as many customers as the Microsoft Security Response Center’s SOC and Incident Response Teams. The SOC within the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) is the front line that defends our customers that use Microsoft's Cloud platform and online services. This people manager position requires the candidate to lead a highly experienced team of analysts, investigators, and forensics specialists integrating closely with the US Government and teams across Microsoft's Cyber Defense Operations Center (CDOC).

Responsibilities

In this role you will work to help identify risk to us and our customers, respond to and investigate the issues, partner on solutions to better prevent, detect, and respond in the future. These responsibilities include:

  • Manage a team of security engineers, investigators, and responders across multiple physical locations

  • Develop clear OKR's for the business during planning cycles

  • Deliver high quality, accurate and timely security investigations and response aligned with business health metrics / key performance indicators (KPIs)

  • Deliver business insights and drive program improvements

  • Drive engineering requirements to improve security posture

  • Transform the business to scale with the growth in the Microsoft Cloud

  • Partner across the company to drive holistic and comprehensive fixes for systemic issues

  • Build customer trust by interfacing directly with external C-Level executives and showcasing our Cloud security strategies and offerings

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cyber security, anomaly detection, Security Operations Center (SOC) detection, threat analytics, security incident and event management (SIEM), and information technology (IT) operations

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field.

  • 3+ years people management experience

Other Requirements:

Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.

  • Clearance Verification : This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customer and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated sound judgement and follow-through in complex situations

  • Understanding of various attack vectors, threat tactics and attacker techniques ranging from APTs, Malware, DDoS, Exploits, etc.

  • Interpersonal skills and effective written/verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to C-level audiences

  • Expert knowledge in detection technologies

  • Deep and practical OS security/internals knowledge

  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations and respond favorably to change

  • Experience working on security investigations in cloud services and understand the nuances of supporting cloud service investigations vs host/endpoint based

  • Certifications like GCIA,GSLC, GCIH, CISM, CISSP, CEH, etc.

Security Operations Engineering M4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
