Meta Research Scientist, Materials in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Materials Research Scientist, with demonstrated experience in proactively identifying, scoping, and implementing material solutions, to join our team in the development of flexible and stretchable electronics. The candidate will be responsible for designing, synthesizing, and characterizing novel materials, such as liquid metals and composites to build high-reliability devices that can withstand mechanical stresses and deformation while maintaining their electrical properties.

Required Skills:

Research Scientist, Materials Responsibilities:

  1. Design and synthesize new liquid metal-based materials with tailored properties for flexible and stretchable electronics applications

  2. Develop and optimize fabrication methods for high-yield production of flexible and stretchable electronic device, then evaluate the performance and reliability under various environmental conditions

  3. Characterize the electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties of developed materials and devices using various techniques (e.g., Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD), etc.)

  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate developed materials and devices into functional systems and prototypesAnalyze and interpret data, identify trends, and draw conclusions to inform future research directions

  5. Contribute to the development of intellectual property and patent applications related to flexible and stretchable electronics

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

  2. Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field

  3. 3+ years of experience in materials research and development in flexible, stretchable electronics, or similar field

  4. 1+ years of experience with liquid metals and their applications in electronics such as patterning of liquid metals, encapsulation, multi-layer circuits using Liquid Metals (LM), and/or similar devices

  5. Proficiency in materials characterization techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD), or similar techniques

  6. Demonstrated track record (>2 successful projects) of conducting materials synthesis, characterization, and device fabrication using analytical and problem-solving skills by acquiring or using complex data sets

  1. Experience with patterning liquid metal on flexible or stretchable substrates for trace, interconnect, antenna or other similar applications

  2. 3+ years of experience with finite element analysis (FEA) simulation tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS, etc.

  3. 2+ years of experience in 3D printing and/or additive manufacturing techniques or similar technologies

  4. Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their applications in materials science

  5. Publication record in scientific journals and papers

Public Compensation:

$117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
