Meta Research Scientist Intern, Interactive Physics Simulations (PhD) in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

Meta Reality Labs Research is looking for an intern to help us develop the next generation interactive physics simulators for MR and VR applications. In particular, we are seeking candidates who have experience with physics simulations, computational mechanics, and computer graphics, along with experience in machine/deep learning methods to devise acceleration strategies to bring high-fidelity simulations to real time.Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. Some projects may require a minimum of 16 consecutive weeks.

Required Skills:

Research Scientist Intern, Interactive Physics Simulations (PhD) Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, implement, and test novel numerical methods for the interactive simulation of soft deformable bodies, fluids and physics-based sound to enable realistic virtual interactions.

  2. Develop and implement numerical methods for numerical optimization, numerical linear algebra, numerical PDEs and AI/ML, as well as performing analysis on these methods.

  3. Implement and optimize the methods devised in a larger software infrastructure, and collaborate with research scientists and software engineers to build demos and experiences based upon the developed tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently is in the process of obtaining a PhD in computer science, computer graphics, computational mechanics, machine learning, computational mathematics or a relevant technical field.

  2. Research skills involving defining problems, exploring solutions, and analyzing and presenting results.

  3. Experience implementing numerical methods and/or deep learning models in a large-scale code.

  4. Proficient in C++ and/or Python.

  5. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

  1. Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as SIGGRAPH, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, or similar.

  2. Experience with high performance/parallel computing (e.g. CUDA).

  3. Experience with training deep learning models and familiarity with tools like PyTorch.

  4. Experience with game engines (e.g. Unreal Engine).

  5. Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.

  6. Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.

  7. Availability for minimum 16 consecutive week internship.

Public Compensation:

$7,800/month to $11,293/month + benefits
