As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for results-driven, and intellectually curious development Hardware Program Managers with dedicated passions for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

We are hiring a Principal Technical Program Manager.

You will play a pivotal role in End2End (E2E) product development of infrastructure hardware and multi-source programs at scale that have a significant impact the business and Azure. The candidates will collaborate with both internal Microsoft teams and external partners (OEMs/ODMs, Systems, and others to driver delivery of high-quality products to our production fleet that enable our business success at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Program Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of hardware projects, from the initial product concept/definition phase to launch. This includes crafting detailed project timelines, identifying and resolving obstacles, and ensuring all processes proceed without interruption.

  • System Engineering Champion: Demonstrated ability in applying systems engineering thinking to solve complex problems, showcasing an understanding of how different components interact within a system to deliver holistic solutions. This includes proficiency in conceptualizing and integrating hardware and software components to meet product development goals.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with both internal and external teams across various functions to outline, prioritize, and execute the development of product features, processes, and workflows that contribute to the success of Azure hardware infrastructure solution.

  • Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with key stakeholders to guide projects from inception to completion, ensuring milestones are met within the allocated budget and timeframe, without compromising on quality.

  • Communication: Effectively communicate and report on program plans and progress to management, providing regular updates that encapsulate both the big picture and crucial details.

  • Product Performance Tracking: Monitor engineering outcomes and efficiency by maintaining a close watch on key performance indicators, thereby ensuring project targets are achieved.

  • Problem-Solving Leadership: Navigate through complex technical and business challenges with acumen, leading teams towards the realization of significant project outcomes. This includes the prompt reporting of progress and critical information to senior leaders and stakeholders.

  • Specification and Product Management: Draft detailed product specifications, oversee product bill of materials (BOMs), manage product releases, and coordinate engineering builds and validation/qualification.

  • Quality Assurance: Drive design verification testing processes and ensure any identified bugs are addressed and resolved/closed promptly.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 3+ years experience with server hardware product design and development

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of high-volume server design and manufacturing is desired.

  • Knowledge about datacenters & operation at scale.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
