The Azure Edge + Platform engineering team is seeking a talented Principal Software Engineer Manager- Azure Edge and Platform. In this role, you will lead a diverse team of passionate engineers with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds. Your primary responsibility will be to help your team achieve their best while maintaining excellent team health and ensuring everyone stays focused on delivering high-scale, cloud-native services for Windows partners and manufacturers. This position offers a unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge of Azure and the Windows ecosystem, as well as to gain experience in delivering and operating high-scale, high-availability services.

Responsibilities

The Azure Reliability team is looking to hire a talented Principal Software Engineer Manager- Azure Edge and Platform to lead the service in designing and delivering new AI and ML-powered scenarios for all of Microsoft's cloud services and products. This individual will also need to drive the adoption of this service across Microsoft and Azure customers. Additionally, this person will need to extend the team culture, help plan and prioritize work, manage and grow team members, and ultimately deliver and be accountable for a world-class cloud-native service.

Traditional software engineering skills such as agile methodologies with a focus on efficiency, iterating quickly, and failing fast are essential. The drive and deliver scalable, maintainable, AI\ML powered components.

Responsibilities:

  • Coach and support partnerships with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine customer requirements.

  • Drive the identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Guide team members in producing extensible and maintainable code.

  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers across products, working on call to monitor systems/products/services for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Seek new knowledge that will improve availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale, and share knowledge with other engineers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of people management experience

  • 2+ years of cloud services expertise

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,

  • OR Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • Experience in implementing large-scale, low-latency, and high-quality distributed systems

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar cloud computing platforms

  • Experience creating, developing, delivering, deploying, and maintaining online services

  • Expertise and knowledge in Agile engineering practices (Continuous Integration, TDD)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern software development and/or distributed services

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
