Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer - Edge Web Platform in Redmond, Washington
The Edge Web Platform team leads Microsoft’s efforts to make the web the premier platform for developing applications. We achieve this by proposing, improving, and implementing new capabilities through contributions to web standards and the open-source Chromium project. By joining our team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the web experience for billions of users.
As a Principal Software Engineer in the Edge Web Platform team, you will collaborate directly with developers and users to understand how the web should evolve to meet their needs and then work to make the identified improvements a reality. You will make direct connections with partner developers working on major Microsoft web properties (including Teams, Office, and others), third-party sites and applications, and the Windows team. These collaborations will enable you to prioritize improvements and partner to evolve the browser and the Windows OS to deliver a world-class experience for users. Additionally, you will engage in public web standards efforts and contribute to the open-source Chromium project.

Responsibilities
Partner with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios.
Lead identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
Lead by example and mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
Leverage subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items.
Hold accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
Proactively seek new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
Experience in successfully engaging in web standardization efforts (e.g. in the W3C and/or IETF).
Demonstrable prior contributions to web platform implementations (e.g. Chromium, Gecko, and/or WebKit).
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
