M365 Core builds the infrastructure, platforms, AI/ML and communications backbone for Microsoft 365. Our team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer - API Architect. The opportunity for business impact is enormous, we are enabling the 1st and 3rd party ecosystem, ultimately providing, and extending new and increased value to our customers

The M365 Core Developer Platform team is the team that builds:

  1. the data plane and business logic that power core productivity data sets like mail, calendar, contacts, people, and tasks; and the APIs exposing those capabilities.

  2. The Microsoft Graph developer experiences, documentation, tooling, SDKs, and Copilot extensibility. And

  3. We drive the strategy for coherence, growth and security of the Microsoft 365 platform, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams all across Microsoft to realize the opportunity for Microsoft and the 3rd party ecosystem that builds high value applications for our common customers.

Responsibilities

Microsoft Graph is Microsoft’s cloud API for dozens of high impact products. As a Principal Software Engineer - API Architect, you will:

  • Use your API design experience and industry awareness to help these teams architect their APIs to solve core business solution problems and participate in Microsoft Graph.

  • Help drive “API as Product” across our org and ensure alignment with industry trends in the API space.

  • Work closely with teams in Azure, Identity, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, the Office clients, the developer division, and many others.

  • Be part of creating productive tools, processes, guidelines, best practices, and industry trends.

  • Deeply understand our customers and their challenges, that put the customer up front as part of defining technical solutions.

  • Provide effective structure to solve complex problems, organize teams and communicate to stakeholders.

  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also drive consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated experience building developer platforms

  • Technical experience with API Design, Authentication, Authorization.

  • Track record of executing complex, multi-faceted and organizationally distributed projects.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
