Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Development Manager in Redmond, Washington

Are you interested in high performance hardware, new operating systems and software defined networking? We are looking for an engineering manager to accelerate the introduction of new networking platforms in Azure.

Join us as a Principal Software Development Manager to build the world’s fastest public cloud and make a difference to millions of people across the planet. As an engineering lead in the host networking team, you would be responsible for building, testing and deploying telemetry and infrastructure supporting networking acceleration on Azure including SRIOV, DPDK for network appliances, Linux network acceleration, RDMA, containers, etc. You should be able to drive projects with other teams in Microsoft, our hardware partners and OS partners. You would also be responsible for making the host networking stack successful in US Government cloud environments.

  • Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.

  • Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

  • Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).

  • Guides team and acts as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Acts as a leader and advocate for software development fundamentals and best practices in all aspects of development including tooling and processes in their own and partner teams.

  • Delivers tools, key objectives and processes that drive high quality hardware and software service development across the organization.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++ OR equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of engineering people management experience.

  • 2+ years of experience with Windows Server OS networking stack, Hyper-V and network virtualization subsystems, Linux OS and Networking.

Other Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical discipline AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++ OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • Experience with

  • performance optimization of systems software

  • AND server-class network hardware.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with internal and external partners.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
