We are seeking an accomplished Principal Software Architect with deep domain expertise in Security, Privacy, and Compliance to drive engineering excellence in the Secure Computing domain. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in hardening the AI production services to meet and exceed Azure's stringent security and compliance requirements. You will collaborate closely with engineering leaders across various teams to define our security vision, chart a strategic path, and ensure that our services are robust and resilient for large enterprise customers.

Responsibilities

  • Security Architecture Leadership: Lead the design and implementation of secure architectures for AI services, ensuring compliance with Azure security standards and industry best practices.

  • Strategic Security Initiatives: Develop and execute a comprehensive security strategy that encompasses encryption (at rest and in transit), network isolation, resource provisioning, access control management, and privacy/data residency management.

  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure that AI services comply with all relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies, including GDPR, HIPAA, and other global privacy and security standards.

  • Collaborative Engineering: Work closely with engineering teams across Azure AI and other Microsoft organizations to integrate security best practices into the development lifecycle, fostering a culture of security-first mindset.

  • Cloud Infrastructure Automation: Drive the automation of security controls and processes within cloud infrastructure to enhance efficiency, scalability, and consistency across deployments.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and internal teams, to understand their security needs and translate them into actionable engineering requirements.

  • Mentorship and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers, promoting continuous learning and the adoption of advanced security practices within the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years extensive experience in security architecture, particularly within the domains of cloud computing, privacy, and compliance.

  • 3+ years hands-on expertise in encryption technologies, network security, resource provisioning, and access control management in cloud environments.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of global security standards and regulations, including GDPR, HIPAA, and others.

  • Proficient with cloud infrastructure automation tools and techniques.

  • Experience leading large-scale security initiatives in a complex, fast-paced environment.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and drive cross-functional initiatives.

  • Experience working with AI/ML services and platforms.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure’s security and compliance frameworks.

  • Advanced certifications in security (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CEH).

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
