Microsoft Corporation Principal Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

Are you interested in developing platforms for using large language models (LLMs)? We are a team that creates offline platforms harnessing LLMs and crowdsourcing to generate labels for model training, metrics, and testing products. We are looking for a Principal Engineering Manager to lead this team, which is crucial to the Microsoft AI Organization. This team has a dual mission. Firstly, as LLMs rapidly evolve, this team plays a central role in onboarding newer models seamlessly and providing the necessary infrastructure for entire organization to experiment with and use the models of their choice. Additionally, the team is also responsible for leveraging this infrastructure to build another platform, enabling various teams to perform end-to-end product testing.

We are looking for someone who is highly technical and is an experienced people manager for this role. You will be regularly expected to present technical/product strategy and Architectural choices to higher level CVPs.

Responsibilities

  • Work with PM team and Partners to understand the needs of various Scenarios

  • Own the product direction and technical road map. Present the same to leadership.

  • Lead a 30 people cross geography team, in addition to playing technical leader role for the area, to deliver on team’s commitments.

  • Establish rigorous engineering processes to ensure service quality, delivery of new capabilities, and continuously improving metrics.

  • Develop talent and grow your team into a high performing healthy organization.

  • Establish a positive, mutually supporting, inclusive team culture consistent with Microsoft cultural attributes, values, leadership principles and manager expectations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalent experience AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of technical leadership experience of designing and delivering large projects

  • 3+ years experience leading teams

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • 6+ years people management experience

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with architecting and building high scale distributed services

  • Demonstrated problem solving and prioritization skills

  • Good communication and collaboration skills

  • Experience with Search products

  • Experience in Data Mining, ML

  • Good Presentation and influencing skills

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
