At Xbox Game Studios, we are hard at work continuing the great legacy of Age of Empires, our beloved RTS (Real Time Strategy) franchise. We are a passionate group responsible for this amazing franchise and are expanding our team looking for a wonderful colleague that will be responsible building the tools that empower our development teams across the world to create great games worthy of the Age of Empires legacy!

We are looking for a Principal Build Engineer with a background building and operating large scale build infrastructure. We’re looking for someone with communication skills and a self-driven approach to work. The ideal candidate understands AAA game development, enjoys collaborating with internal and external partners, and has a track record for delivering high quality infrastructure with a passion for operational excellence. A qualified applicant must have experience developing and maintaining large scale, reliable, secure build services and the tools needed to use them.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain build infrastructure used across the Age portfolio.

  • Implement new features, improve automation, increase reliability and improve observability.

  • Provide troubleshooting and timely resolution of system, network, and infrastructure problems.

  • Be available for 24x7 on-call rotations

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Go, C++, C#, Bash, Ruby, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of professional experience in AAA scale Unreal Engine game development

  • 6+ years of experience in setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms

  • 4+ years experience building infra on Azure or AWS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in implementing automated unit and integration tests

  • Content Tools and Pipelines

  • 4+ years experience administering Perforce source control systems

  • Deep understanding of Unreal Engine’s build pipeline and asset management systems

  • Experience supporting Perforce based CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience in working with non-engineering disciplines

  • Experience in working with remote teams

  • Experience with infrastructure tools like Kubernetes and Docker

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
