As we support a large and increasing array of devices and experiences, the Xbox Platform team is seeking a creative and technical Platform Software Engineer to help deliver the next generation of exceptional end-to-end experiences to delight players, while also building developer focused platforms to empower game studios and hardware manufacturers to innovate and deliver on their own visions. 

As a Platform Software Engineer on the team, you’ll be involved in working with the team and partners to author APIs and work on platform components to continue the evolution of gaming across a breadth of devices. You will contribute to a rich and diverse set of APIs, drivers and services used across our many products, with reach and impact extending to billions of devices (including every Windows PC out there!). There would be opportunity for work across the platform, from low-level, high-performant OS development, both in user-mode APIs and kernel-mode drivers, to high-level services that interact with the cloud and our UX partners.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops platform-level software components with reliability, compatibility, and latency in mind. 

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, game developers, system architects, industry partners, and other software teams. 

  • Contributes to the evolution of a developing ecosystem of devices for Windows OS and consoles. 

  • Debugs and fixes incoming regressions in new and existing components. 

  • Contributes to an inclusive Microsoft culture.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience designing, development and debugging skills in C/C++ (or a similar languages).

     Preferred  Qualifications

  • Experience with coding and design

  • Experience authoring developer-facing APIs

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.
