The Xbox Experiences and Platforms team is home to the engineering work that makes this vision possible, building the developer tools and services that enable game creators to craft incredible experiences, the commerce systems that connect publishers with their audience and help gamers engage with their next favorite games, the platforms on which those games play at their best, and the experiences that turn every screen into an Xbox.

Our developer team is seeking a Partner Software Engineer to enhance the Xbox developer platform in alignment with Xbox’s vision for the future of gaming. This person will have input into all aspects of the platform, but will be focused on developer tools, developer enablement of hardware (both cloud and local), and leveraging cloud and AI to drive innovation that enables game creators to spend as much of their time as possible making their games great.

This role will support creators across devices, including all screens that Xbox players enjoy their favorite titles on today, to next-generation hardware where Xbox will make our biggest leap forward yet. You will help craft the developer tools that empower game creators to build, measure and perfect amazing games for all gaming device types. You will work closely with industry leaders across hardware, software, and services, including game studios and middleware providers. You will be a key part of how game development evolves going forward.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Partner Software Engineer and key contributor within Microsoft’s Xbox Experiences and Platform Developer team

  • Advance our game development tools, platform, hardware, and services, through both direct ownership and broad technical influence

  • Identify and drive opportunities that leverage AI to increase the productivity of game creators

  • Drive for quality in everything you do and continuously improve the systems on which you work

  • Coach and mentor other engineers to continually raise the skills and culture of the team

  • Give and receive feedback in the spirit of continual growth and improvement

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient understanding of systems, hardware, and low-level hardware/software interaction

  • Demonstrated skills in problem-solving, design, execution, and debugging

  • Ability to work on a large codebase and willing to take on a wide variety of challenges

  • Ability to influence partner teams, both within Microsoft and external to Microsoft

  • 10+ years of professional coding experience in C/C++ 8+ years of experience with the game development industry and game studio workflows

  • Familiarity with modern game engine and service middleware offerings

  • Motivated to learn and push the boundaries in challenging technical domains

Software Engineering IC7 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $204,600 - $331,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $225,600 - $364,800 per year.
