Meta Optical 3D Printing Platform System Architect in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

As an Optical 3D Print Platform System Architect at Meta Reality Labs, you will lead defining 3D print platform system architecture, building and maturing our current generation as well as creating the new generation for additively manufacturing optical lens and devices as part of Meta products, and drive the overall technology strategy & roadmaps with cross-function teams to scale. We want people who: work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, thrive in ambiguity, able to map trade-off spaces, able to drive a concept into a prototype, and can transition it to mass-production for a high-volume consumer product. This 3DP Platform System Architect will lead the definition and convergence of complex and novel sub-systems required for optical 3D printing aimed at additively mass producing highly customized optical lens and optics for smart and AR headsets. The role requires technical skills and communication with cross-functional teams across hardware engineering, materials engineering, firmware & software engineering, process development and application engineering, partnerships, supply chain, and system integration to mature the technology and scale the product for mass production. This role requires technical understanding and extensive experience of design, modeling, rapid subsystem iteration and validation, and full system development.Starting with a broad engineering background in electrical, mechanical, applied physics, or related fields, we’re looking for a unique system designer or architect. The ideal candidate would have proved track record on systems skills, previous roles driving architecture convergence on complex printing products, and experience with electro-mechanical systems, embedded firmware, feedback control, software, etc. He or she is also able to work collaboratively with experts in different fields to make architectural tradeoffs and drive decisions.

Required Skills:

Optical 3D Printing Platform System Architect Responsibilities:

  1. Technical delivery on hardest architectural problems in optical 3D printing platform development, scale, and productization

  2. Be a technical leader working with and guiding a group of internal and external engineers to define system requirements to mature and scale current generation of 3DP platform, and apply learning to create mass-production level one(s)

  3. Engage with technology project leads, and various component SMEs in creating the overall system architecture and platform as the starting point for product execution

  4. Communicate technology and platform strategy effectively to both internal and external stakeholders

  5. Guide management on the long term technology direction and investments

  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on creating strategic plans and roadmaps for scaling both the printing systems and the final products built out of the printing systems.

  7. Travel up to 50% time domestically and internationally

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 15+ years of expertise in electrical, mechanical engineering , and complex hardware system engineering

  2. Experience working with two or more of these technologies: high speed inkjet printing, micro-fluidics, multi-physics simulation, and additive manufacturing

  3. Communication experience working with Product Development engineers, Product Managers and other hardware/software cross functional teams

  4. Experience creating the technology from scratch, optimizing system performance, building partnerships, and working with external partners at a development level, supply base, and product level for scale

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, applied physics, other related technical field or equivalent experience

  2. Extensive experience in mechanical design, embedded firmware, and system modeling to inform trade-offs against key architectural decisions (e.g. inkjet technology, in-situ sensing, automation, modularization, etc.)

  3. Understanding the criticality of the inter-dependence of HW, SW, and process control and their impacts on overall system performance

  4. Experience creating subsystem prototypes, validate their performance and impact among multiple subsystems, iterate and close loop to define the system architecture to meet the overall goals of the product definition

  5. Experience with influencing print heads vendors' roadmaps and product features with emphasis on meeting advanced additive manufacturing technology needs
