Microsoft Corporation Lead Shader Technical Artist - Turn 10 Studios in Redmond, Washington

Turn 10 Studios, the creators of the top selling and critically acclaimed Forza franchise, has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Shader Technical Artist to join our studio. This role oversees the creation and management of shaders and materials to support our enormous library of high-quality game content for our cutting edge games.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Technical Art Director to develop a long-term strategy for the needs, resourcing, staffing of a material and shader team that fit within the business

  • Drives collaboration across multiple art disciplines for shader and material development

  • Plan, prioritize, organize, and evolve needs of multiple art disciplines requests through collaboration with Art Direction, Engineering, and Production

  • Drives the development of the artistic techniques and processes utilized to define and achieve a products visual style and encourage artistic evolution within the studio. This entails expanding methods to improve the production pipelines, tools, processes, and visual integrity

  • Actively advances skill set of self and others abilities through being intimately aware of industry trends and techniques, consistently evaluating competitive products, learning new software packages and traditional art methods.

  • Design, maintain, and evolve a hierarchical library of shaders and materials for our car and environment content

  • Author shaders and maintain stability and performance of material library

  • Partner with Outsource Management for expansion of vendor capabilities in materials and shaders

  • Partner with Tools teams to help drive world class shader and material application across ever-expanding opportunities of evolving tool sets and technologies

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Technical Art, Game Design, or related field AND 2+ years technical art or industry-related design experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Technical Art, Game Design, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical art or industry-related design experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years experience using related software and packages (e.g., Autodesk Maya, MotionBuilder, 3D Studio Max, Adobe Creative Suite, SideFX Houdini, Zbrush, Substance Suite).

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Technical Art, Game Design, or related field AND 8+ years technical art or industry-related design experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Technical Art, Game Design, or related field AND 6+ years technical art or industry-related design experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years programming experience (e.g., Python, C#, C++, or equivalent languages)

Technical Art IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
