This opportunity will allow you to define design approaches, technical specifications, and parameters for devices. You will ensure that designs and specifications document test requirements that account for customer use scenarios. Hardware Engineers may also select materials and components based on analysis of specifications and reliability and may work with suppliers to select optimal materials and components for devices. They also identify root causes for technical issues, flaws, and design challenges, and develops and implements solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the creation of robust, scalable, secure, and extensible designs and/or verification plans for the hardware engineering aspects of well-defined products or features.

  • Reads device specification sheets and interprets common details required to design and test various hardware features.

  • Ensures that test requirements are included in documentation and specifications for a feature or product.

  • Develops, reviews, and executes test plans for standard features or products.

  • Follows a single project implementation schedule to deliver the hardware engineering aspects of a well-defined feature or product. Escalates issues to management as necessary.

  • Obtains input from functional experts regarding opportunities to affect downstream execution of projects by resolving issues and executing design tradeoffs within scope.

  • Documents essential details about materials, components, and/or assemblies for a device via accepted release processes. Accurately records and tracks changes to designs following established processes with some guidance from other engineers.

  • You will need to be results-driven with a strong attention to detail and technical problem-solving skills.

  • You will strategically and creatively innovate ways to communicate and visualize user experiences.

  • You will drive collaborative efforts across multiple disciplines.

  • You will analyze hardware and firmware designs.

  • Exhibit debugging skills and drive to develop innovative hardware.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineer, mechanical engineering, or related field.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 -2 years of experience with internship or classroom experience in product development preferred.

  • Knowledge of embedded programming and C/C++/C# concepts is preferred.

The salary for this role in the state of Colorado is between $92,900 - $151,800.

At Microsoft, certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
