Microsoft Corporation General Manager, Regulatory Governance in Redmond, Washington

The Privacy, Safety and Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) organization is responsible for the company’s end-to-end approach to regulatory governance. In addition, PSRA leads internal guidance and external policy development in several critical domains – privacy, digital safety, lawful access, telecom, accessibility, and corporate standards – helping Microsoft earn the public’s trust by adapting to heightened expectations and expanded global regulation.

The General Manager for Regulatory Governance will be responsible for developing and guiding Microsoft’s overall regulatory governance processes and systems. This leadership role will also support coordinating work with Internal Audit and other compliance organizations to build out internal systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

The General Manager for Regulatory Governance will lead our regulatory governance program and team as it continues to:

  • Build, scale, and deliver a coordinated governance system to harmonize company-wide internal guidance in key regulatory fields

  • Help engineering teams, business groups, and legal teams develop coherent systems to address the impact of new regulations on Microsoft’s products and services

  • Create congruence in how the company presents and drives its processes for demonstrating compliance

This role will report to Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Global Privacy, Safety and Regulatory Affairs.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Execution : A key function of the role will be to lead, coordinate, and orchestrate the further development, execution, and oversight of a high impact regulatory governance program by developing strategies for achieving success through agility and efficiency gains.

This will also require an inclusive approach to aligning strategic objectives across multiple Microsoft organizations to achieve company-wide goals. The role will also be accountable for leading the overall change management approach to continued rollout of this program and delivering relevant learning resources.

Stakeholder Management : With complex and varied organizational priorities across Microsoft, the GM of Regulatory Governance will be responsible for identifying, informing, and obtaining support from key stakeholders across CELA and business groups. The successful candidate will need to understand stakeholder goals and priorities, seek win-win solutions whenever possible, and create accountability models that ensure action, coordination, and early awareness.

Leadership: The GM of Regulatory Governance will lead a high-performance multidisciplinary team and drive execution through partnership with cross-functional experts across the company to further Microsoft’s regulatory governance and compliance success. This will include active listening, consensus building, and embracing collaboration.

Process Optimization: The GM of Regulatory Governance will be responsible for the continuous improvement of regulatory governance processes to ensure they are efficient, compliant, and aligned with key organizational objectives. This may include identifying and implementing best practices, standardizing procedures across multiple organizations, and driving innovation by advocating for and collaborating with teams that are driving automation tools, data analytics, and other technology solutions to enhance workflows.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years work experience in product compliance or governance, program management, process management, process improvement

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years people management experience and managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects

Additional or Preferred Qualifications :

  • Broad business and/or regulatory background

  • Ability to navigate engineering organizations

  • Understanding of external regulations and the regulatory environment

  • Knowledge of Microsoft engineering or compliance systems and processes

  • Demonstrated ability to:

  • Build out successful governance or regulatory awareness outcomes

  • Drive accountability models that enforce action, coordination, and early awareness

  • Drive complex projects with speed, quality, and agility

  • Build consensus and integrate effectively across teams and organizational boundaries

  • Maintain a shared, focused vision across multiple teams

  • Manage dependencies on multiple organizations

  • Deliver results on schedule not withstanding changing requirements

  • Experience developing engagement with company executives, and driving compelling communication materials appropriate for these audiences

  • Efficient interpersonal skills including ability to build trust, exert influence, and sustain positive relationships with diverse team members and other stakeholders

  • A proven track record of driving impact without direct authority

Business Program Management M7 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $200,900 - $326,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,000 - $355,200 per year.
